Greyhound Soccer - 3 2007 Season Outlook 2007 Loyola College Men’s Soccer Media Guide

The 2007 Greyhounds will be young a side after graduating seven seniors from last year’s squad. The ‘Hounds start the year with 13 freshmen as they look to fill roles and find a winning mix for Head Coach Mark Mettrick in his eighth season at Loyola. Mettrick, who has 69 wins in seven seasons at Evergreen, brought in first-assistant coach Matt Dwyer this summer to compliment Charlie McDoniel and Kyle Swarts in their positional coach- ing roles. The staff hopes that blend- ing youth with experience will equal success on the field with another chal- lenging schedule and continued high expectations for the program. This year’s seniors are Janson Blake, Julian Cantillo and Camilo Correa – all of whom have received playing time since their freshmen campaigns and are expected to contribute in leader- ship roles on and off the field for the Junior Ziggy Kamara program. Team captains are junior Josh Taylor and sophomore Tennant McVea, expected to contribute heavily to the both of whom emerged as team lead- overall team success in 2007. Overall Overall, the Greyhounds will be less experienced than years past, but fully expect to live up to the high standards set forth by the men’s soccer program. Mettrick also led Loyola to its first MAAC tournament championship since 1996, and the NCAA appearance for the program was its first since 1993. In 2000, his first season as head coach, Mettrick led the Greyhounds to a MAAC regular-season championship and a 12-4-1 overall record.
