PRODUCTION NOTES “Flesh and Bone” follows Claire, a young ballet dancer with a distinctly troubled past, as she joins the ranks of a prestigious ballet company in New York. The gritty, complex series unflinchingly explores the dysfunction and glamour of the ballet world. Claire is a transcendent ballerina with vaulting ambitions, held back by her own self-destructive tendencies; coping mechanisms for the sexual and emotional damage she’s endured. When confronted with the machinations of the company’s mercurial Artistic Director and also an unwelcome visitor from her past, Claire’s inner torments and aspirations drive her on a compelling, unforeseeable journey. It is Moira Walley-Beckett’s first project following her Emmy-award winning tenure as a writer and Executive Producer on “Breaking Bad.” Walley-Beckett partnered with a team of Executive Producers whose backgrounds include premium programming and insider dance connections – former ballet dancer Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs), Kevin Brown (“Roswell”), whose family of former ballet dancers was the basis for the 1977 feature The Turning Point, and Emmy-award winning producer John Melfi, whose extensive credits include “House of Cards,” “The Comeback,” “Nurse Jackie” and the film and TV versions of “Sex and the City.” “Flesh and Bone” is a character-driven drama that “rips the Band‑Aid off the glossy, optical illusion that is ballet. Ballet appears to be ethereal and perfect - and the dancers make it look easy - but the underbelly is pain,” said Walley- Beckett. “It’s dedication. It’s obsession. It’s an addiction. And it is perfect fodder for drama.” “Ballet is the backdrop for the story and many of the characters are involved in that world, but I’m not telling a story about ballet,” Walley-Beckett explains. -

PRODUCTION BIOGRAPHIES MOIRA WALLEY-BECKETT (Executive Producer/ Writer – Episode 107) Moira Walley-Beckett is a multiple award winning playwright, television writer and screenwriter. She is the Series Creator and Executive Producer of “Flesh and Bone.” Before creating “Flesh and Bone,” Moira spent six years as a writer and Co-Executive Producer on the critically acclaimed AMC series “Breaking Bad.” For her work on the show, Moira has won a total of three Emmys®, three Writers’ Guild Awards, three AFI Awards, three Saturn Awards, two PGA Awards, a Golden Globe, a Peabody, and a Pen Literary Award nomination. In 2014, Ms. Walley-Beckett received an Emmy Award® for “Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series” for her final “Breaking Bad” episode entitled “Ozymandias.” Moira has had a long and diverse career in the arts. She started her dance career at age three, training seriously in ballet and jazz through her teens. She then danced professionally in Canada for several years. She made the transition into musical theater, starring in many productions, as well as playing and recording with her rock band, Bimbo Du Jour. Before transitioning into writing, Moira was an actor in film, television and theatre. She has performed in over 30 theatrical productions in Canada and the US, and guest-starred in over 25 television shows. For Immediate Release Contact: Dan Bauer, Marketing Manager 609.658.2826 [email protected] American Repertory Ballet Names Ethan Stiefel New Artistic Director NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (November 16, 2020) – After an extensive search, American Repertory Ballet (ARB) announced today that Ethan Stiefel will become its new Artistic Director beginning July 2021. “This appointment marks a wonderful new era for our organization,” says Board Chair DonnaJean Fredeen. “We believe Ethan Stiefel’s unparalleled expertise and innovative vision will bring American Repertory Ballet into an exciting new chapter. We are delighted to welcome him, and look forward to supporting his leadership.” Stiefel began his professional career at age 16 with the New York City Ballet where he quickly rose to the rank of Principal Dancer. He was also a Principal Dancer with Ballett Zürich and American Ballet Theater (ABT) where, in July 2012, he gave his final performance. It was described by The New York Times as “daring, explosive, and laced with risk.” The Star Ledger lauded Stiefel “among the greatest dancers America has ever produced.” “I am very fortunate to again have the opportunity to become an Artistic Director,” Stiefel says. “I believe most arts organizations have taken stock during these times and are exploring ways to pioneer, diversify and reinvigorate how they approach their internal culture while seeking to offer current and relevant inspiration for communities and audiences.
