BELGIUM VICINAL RAILWAYS (1) - SL 299 01.05.20 page 1 of 58 PASSENGER STATIONS & STOPS excluding Mons-Charleroi area (see Belgium Vicinal Rlys (2), SL180); including Tramways Liege-Seraing & Glossary Based on Indicateur Officiel/Officiële Reisgids 1895 (z), 1914 (a), 1925 (b), 1938 (c), 1952 (d), 1976 (e) & current Kusttram TT (f). Also, Indicateurs 1906/1907 (p), 1930 (q), 1945 (s),1950 (t) & local SNCV/NMVB TTs Kustlynen 1925, Luxembourg 1957, Antwerpen 1959, Brabant 1969 & West Vlaanderen 1971, personal observation 1960's, The Vicinal Story 1885-1991 (WJK Davies), Rail Atlas Vicinal and Les C.de F. Vicinaux de Brabant. #: from Histories. tm: terminus at date shown Former names: [ ] Distances in tariff kilometres; Gauge 1.0m unless noted; E: electrified lines; [90]: route nos. Bilingual representation: First name shown as current or final timetables, usually Flemish/French in the bilingual Brussels area and in the Flemish speaking areas north, north-east and west of Brussels; French/Flemish (or German)in the French (and part German) speaking areas south and south-east of Brussels. After WW2, the alternative French or Flemish name was gradually discontinued in most areas. Only the Brussels area remains bilingual. All French names on Kusttram (577) have been shown as former names. Until after 1907, TTs showed most minor stops in the main table. By 1914, most of the minor stops were only shown in footnotes, making stops opened or renamed after 1907 difficult to locate (1970's bus timetables have enabled many to be located). Some line TTs did not show the minor stops, particularly suburban lines after electrification. "?" in the km column means this stop may not be in the correct geographical sequence. The names of most station and stops in official TTs show the name of the community (prefix), even where the stop is several km from the centre of the community, followed by the specific location (suffix). It is not possible to tell which community names are properly part of the station/stop name, and I have used discretion in showing community names as part of stop names. The community names are generally included where the suffixes refer to churches, town halls etc - a glossary of the most frequent of these is given at the end of this List. The community name is not usually included where the stop is a hamlet etc remote from the centre of the community, and, in towns and suburbs, stops named after nearby streets etc. Another difficulty is the habit of mixing Flemish prefixes with French suffixes and vice verse. Again, I have used discretion in showing these in the List. Line numbers are based on the official line numbers shown in the 1938 Indicateur, which generally applied from before WW1 until 1939. Lines were renumbered again after WW2 and in the 1950's. The Indicateur typeface was reset after WW2. Be warned that 1940's-1950 issues contain many spelling errors, with the footnote stops sometimes shown in the wrong sequence. The typeface was reset again by 1953 to a much improved format -my copy for 1953 is a bilingual edition (first since 1914?) and is generally reliable. The 1895, 1906/7 & 1914 Indicateurs show all stops on interurban/suburban routes in the central area of cities and larger towns, later to have electrified urban tram systems. Many of these stops were no longer served by the interurban & suburban services or were no longer shown in Vicinal TTs after urban lines were opened. Additional stops were opened on these urban services and some of the former steam tram stops renamed or relocated. Information on these is not generally available and may not be included in this list. I have added some of these where shown on De Rouck maps, but the names refer to location only. SNCV Urban services in Ostend, Louvain/Leuven, Mechelen/Malines, Brugge/Bruges & Namur (electric era) * are not included in this list. * Steam era urban services in Namur are included, as stop details were included in the National TTs. 250.
