It is early Celtic interlaced work such as is not found elsewhere in England except in Northumbria. The cross gives a name to a once noted Devon family which comes in the local rhyme: Crocker, Cruwys, and Coplestone, When the Conqueror came were found at home. Good Friday commemorates the day when Jesus Christ was betrayed and executed by 2nd the Romans in Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Some sources suggest that the day is called "good" in that it is holy, or that the phrase is a corruption of "God's Friday". Easter Day marks the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, bringing light, joy and salva- 4th tion. According to the Bible, this happened on the third day after his crucifixion. Many customs are associated with Easter, including Easter eggs and egg hunting, the Easter bunny and Easter pa- rades - see our Easter Biscuit Recipe on page 7. Limousin’s (23m) from Peter Folland, Witheridge hit £1290 for a couple of steers and £1000 for a heifer whilst a run of well grown sorts from MJ Williams up from Falmouth sold well and to £1185 for a Limousin steer (25m) and £1150 for a pen of eye catching Stabiliser steers (24m). Further runs of smart South Devon bullocks from JP Matthews & Son Torpoint (22m) and David & Karen Smith of Littlehempston (18m) eased to £1145 (x8) and £1130 respectively. Younger store steers looked dear, attaining £1100 for Charolais (14m) from John Cole, Harford, £1050 for South Devon’s (13m) from Andrew & Kirsten Musgrave and £1015 for yearling Simmentals from Jeremy Brown of Poltimore.
