Cardiff Outdoor Group April 2016 Programme Walking Back-packing Weekends away Social evenings Saturday 2nd South Walk 3 Peaks Trial 2016 COG Members will be out in force ensuring all runs smoothly for our annual fundraiser. 900 entrants are pre-booked on this challenge walk. All members are welcome to come along to assist on the day, the event wouldn't happen without our members. If you are interested in volunteering contact Enid on 07974 959415 or [email protected]. Expenses will be reimbursed. Tuesday 5th COG's Mega Quiz Night. Come along to Chapter and join Jane Mutter who is stepping up as COG's quiz master extraordinaire, for the battle of the brains at COG's quiz night. So, don your thinking caps and divide yourselves into teams for this cerebral challenge. Afterwards we will be adjourning to Chapter's well-stocked bar to celebrate with the winners and commiserate with the lesser mortals. Event held at Chapter Media Point from 8.00pm. All welcome. Friday 8th Three Peaks Trial Volunteer's Thank You Curry As a thank you to all the hard working volunteers at the Three Peaks Trial we're having an evening out! COG will pay for the set menu. Sunday 10th Ystradfellte walk ••• Long walk from the car park at Ystradfellte visiting Ystradfellte Reservoir, Fan Llia/Dringarth and Fan Nedd. Sunday 10th Relaxing walk in or around the Wye Valley / Forest of Dean Area •• As a complimentary event to our longer walk, Brian is leading a nice relaxed walk of about 5 miles in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean area. So, if you are happy with a shorter walk in amiable company, amongst stunning scenery and maybe a pleasant pub or tea room along the way, watch this space or look out for Bob's weekly email for more details. Contact Brian on 02920 494645 Tuesday 12th Evening walk - Parc Cefn Onn • Stretch your legs on this short but enjoyable walk around Parc Cefn Onn with Katherine T. Katherine will then guide us to the Old Cottage for a refreshing drink to round off the evening. Meet at The Old Cottage (Near Lisvane Station.) at 6.30pm, or meet later at the Old Cottage for drinks at 8.00pm. For further details contact Katherine on 029 2088 1572 or email [email protected]. Sunday 17th Spring Flowers in the Vale of Glamorgan •• 8m Starting in the village of St Brides Major, with its historic church of St Bridget's before reaching Ewenny Priory, the most complete Norman Church in Wales, and the setting for one of JMW Turner’s finest works of art. If the weather is good we’ll enjoy great views of the beacon at Rhossili Down as well as the Somerset coast and we will visit the Coed-y-Bwl Nature Reserve, known as Daffodil Wood. Distance 8 miles. Moderate with some short, steep sections. BPL. Meet at Chapter for 9.30am start or 10.15am at the car park opposite the Fox and Hounds. Contact Sue on 07930 649498. Tuesday 19th Nicki & Josie's Fundraising Trip to Patagonia Come along and hear all about this amazing fundraising trip that two COG members completed recently in aid of Velindre Hospital. Meet at 8pm at Sport Wales National Centre, Sophia Gardens. Saturday 23rd Litter pick and BBQ As a group of green-minded individuals who gain a lot from being out and about in the wonderful countryside that surrounds us, our very own Roger and Rachel are giving us the opportunity to put a little back by organizing a litter pick at one of the magnificent beaches in the Vale of Glamorgan. The main litter pick will probably commence mid-morning and be followed by a well-earned beach BBQ to round off the day. More details to follow via COG email.
