Full Length Album "Usual Suspects: Season III)
8 PIECE HIP-HOP COLLECTIVE BIOGRAPHY Formed in a basement in Ottawa, Ontario, in late 2012, BLAKDENIM blends genres like no Canadian act today. The group fuses hip-hop, funk, rock and soul with lyrical content that ranges from identity issues to daily issues, like picking yourself up after a bad day, perseverance, self- esteem and hope. Influenced by artists like The Roots to Earth, Wind and Fire, there’s no shortage of musical expertise with the line-up consisting of an emcee, female vocalist, 2 trumpets, saxophone, bass guitar, guitar, keys and drums. They soon became known as an incredible live act not to be missed within the Nation’s Capital across a spectrum of music genre fans alike. As finalists in the Live 88.5 Big Money Shot radio competition in 2013, the band was awarded a small sum of money that allowed them to record their debut EP. “Vanguard(EN)” was independently released in 2014, and made top hip-hop charts on college radio and selective rotation on commercial FM stations. Their professional music videos quickly gained traction with thousands of views each. Serious media buzz came from a highly successful club tour in February 2015, and well-attended showcases at Indie Week, where they were a top finalist. BLAKDENIM was destined to become a festival favourite across Ontario and Quebec and soon found them-selves opening for iconic artists like Charles Bradley and Karim Ouellet. BLAKDENIM continues to prove that Ottawa is more than capable of putting out truly elite talent. For an emerging band to have been invited to play these festivals and showcases, including Canadian Music Week, indicates the great potential for career longevity that major festival promoters and industry recognize in them. -

Unexpected Charges Leave Students Distrustful of Courtesy Meals Program
4 CULTURE 9 OPINION This First-Year Finds Community Courtesy Meals Shouldn’t Come in Cooking at a Price 6 ARTS 10 SPORTS Charly Bliss Comes of Age, Led by Judo at NYU, a Balancing Act Clive Davis Alumna VOLUME LIII | ISSUE 12 MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2019 Unexpected Charges Leave Students Distrustful of Courtesy Meals Program Some of those who used the Courtesy Meals Program found funds from their financial aid diverted to covering its cost. By VICTOR PORCELLI News Editor The Courtesy Meals Program, which is supposed to be free, affected some financially vulnerable stu- dents’ aid packages this week, leading to confusion and distrust of the program. The CMP provides students with Dining Dol- lars — and, as of recently, meal swipes — to ensure they don’t go hungry. However, a small group of users received an email from the Office of Financial Aid on Wednesday notifying them that their finan- cial aid packages would be adjusted due to their use of the program. Student government Chairperson and Gallatin se- nior Jakiyah Bradley previously served as a Senator at- Large for food-insecure students. Bradley first learned about the policy change through a constituent, but saw Instagram stories drawing attention to it being widely circulated by students. Bradley said immedi- ately after hearing about students’ financial aid being affected, she brought the issue to administrators who said they would begin working to resolve it. One of the first to post it to their story, Steinhardt senior Elaine Cao had $150 taken out of their work- study to go toward the CMP. -

Cubed Circle Newsletter 241 – Consistency Is Hard
Cubed Circle Newsletter 241 – Consistency is Hard As many of probably noticed, we have been posting late and sporadically for the last month. This was, obviously, not our intention, but with the second semester eating into my free time, staying up to date is a tall order. Even without the newsletter itself seeing weekly publication the site has still remained up to date on a weekly basis, thanks primarily to co-author Ben Carass, as well as guest writers Paul Cooke and Leslie Lee III. But, the newsletter has survived for well over 241 weeks, and will hopefully thrive in the years to come. I have attempted to make provisions for publishing related tasks which should minimize the risk of major delays (obviously there will be some regular delays, as this late issue can attest), but we have some fail safes in place in order to keep this to a minimum. With all of this said, we have a great issue for everyone this week with Paul Cooke discussing the Pro-Wrestling Only Greatest Wrestler Ever project and his personal experience with the poll, Ben covers the news including tons of results from Japan and the Lesnar USADA violation, the Mixed Bag returns with a look at comedy wrestling, Ricochet/Ospreay, and a potential WWE match of the year -- plus Ben also looks at last Sunday's Battleground show and the first RAW of the brand split (a very good show). Also, for those unaware, we now have an official Twitter account @CubedCircleWres allowing the banger to unprecedented highs at @BenCarass and @RyanClingman.
