WANDERING THOUGHTS (as we see them)

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our every day schedule, that we think that nothing can change it – WRONG!

Having an extra “active calendar” last week, we decided t get an early start on the paper by going to the copy room on Wednesday afternoon. Guess we should have asked the copier its opinion first – with only 119 copies of the 2 pages done, a message appeared on the screen.

“internal problem – contact your service technician”. Yikes – luckily the technician was in the area, so appeared in about half an hour. Problem was found however a repair part was needed

– ending up needing to be ordered!

Okay – let’s go to Plan B – either wait for the repair to be done (a few days) or do a “sympathy visit” to Parkland School – after some thought and advice, we chose the latter. So after a couple of hours on Thursday A.M. and Friday A.M. – the finished product was completed – thanks to the following: Elly at Parkland School, our resident stuffers and Shirley for doing the “slightly” later deliveries.. And most of all, you, our readers for the understanding – sorry for any inconvenience caused. Sometimes “glitches” can’t be helped “a good idea, gone bad”!

A week ago, we were watching butterflies and their insect cousins having their lunch on a sedum plant as the warm sunshine reminded us that our summer days were coming to an end. Whoa! Today we look out the same window to see snow on our yesterday’s mowed lawn – can you imagine living where the weather never changes – BORING! 20°+ 0°!

A few locals attended the community fowl supper in Arcola last Friday – huge crowds and good food was th reported. Today (29 ), we challenged the wintery conditions and attended the supper at St. Andrew’s – as usual an “awesome feast” and great fellowship. (We again marvel at the organization and cooperation these folks have to work in their small area and limited privileges).

Realizing today (Monday) is the last day KoRner Kones is open, the idea surfaced to have one last “lick of the season” – so as the snow continued to add up, we satisfied our craving – something (weather, maybe?) just didn’t seem right in this picture!

On closing, one cannot possibly imagine what frustration farmers are experiencing as they watch their year’s labour deteriorating daily – our thoughts are with you …

SAMARITANS PURSE SHOE BOXES “WIDER” WAGER

Where has the summer gone? It is only 6 weeks until we send our shoeboxes off to underprivileged The “opposition/fellow wagerer” continues to children all around the world. exercise the old saying “Tis better to give than receive” – so consequently the tally is We are looking for help to fill these boxes with new now at 8 – 5 for “yours truly”. donations of hygiene items, school supplies, small toys, etc. And with the Green & White advancing to a playoff position, the wagering will last a little Also we are looking for help in sponsoring the longer – into the Grey Cup (it’s called having shipping of the boxes as each one requires $14.00 the courage to dream!) to ship. WAWOTA CURLING CLUB

The Wawota Curling Club would like to acknowledge and express our most sincere appreciation to many donors and supporters of our small but vital club!

Farm Credit Corporation for $10000 Grant to be used for our Ceiling Re-insulating/Covering Project. This has been a dream project for the executive for a few years, so it's nice to see it coming true!

Wawota Recreation Board continually supports us with our many projects. This year, we are repainting the ice surface and rebuilding the walkway out in front of the ice as both were in desperate need of attention.

Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Funds; we received $925 to go towards coaching our youth!

The Town of Wawota, RM of Walpole and RM of Wawken awarded a nice Facility Grant to help with the never ending expenses of operating and maintaining the club.

Lastly, we have received some very nice donations from Bev Nagy in memory of Paul Filteau and from donors in memory of Tom Weatherald. It's support like this from our community and businesses that make it possible to keep our facility viable, but without all our very special volunteers it wouldn't happen.

Sincerely, Wawota Curling Club Executive

Cross-Country

This year’s cross country team is coached by Mrs. Miller. About a dozen students started out the season but only a few dedicated runners remain. The weather has not been very desirable for running but they have been good sports.

Congratulations to Lo- gan West who ran in the Elementary Cross Country Meet in Rocan- ville on Saturday, Sep- tember 28th. She placed 10th in her age cate- gory and beat her personal best. Great job Logan!!

We have had a great fall golf season with 10 golfers from grades 5-12 participating. GOLF Our team played rounds at Golf Kenosee, Redvers Golf Course and Woodlawn Golf Club in . Theoren West, Matthew Fahlman and Zach Mudrewich competed in the senior district tournament in Estevan on Tuesday September 17th. Zach Mudrewich and Mat- thew Fahlman placed 12th and 15th respectfully out of 38 golfers. Theoren West placed second overall and advanced to Provincials in Estevan on September 27th and 28th. Theoren finished 4th in the prov- ince and 1st place in the team event. Way to go Theoren!! Our junior golfers prepared for their junior championship in Redvers on September 21st and were eager to compete. Unfortunately the tournament was cancelled due to excessive rainfall and poor weath- er forecast. Redvers will be hosting the junior tournament in the spring of 2020. I would like to thank the local golf courses for their generosity with reduced green fees and free carts for the chaperones. Without their support our school program would not be successful. Greetings from Grade 5-6! Hi! We are having a great first month of school in Grade 5-6! We are working on patterns and relations and some review in Grade 6 Math. We are work- ing on place value and estimating on Grade 5 Math. In ELA, we are working on our autobiographies and learning about famous people such as Barak Obama and Hellen Keller. We look forward to hosting a readers theater afternoon with our parents and loved ones in October! In social, our main focus is sur- rounding culture and the role it plays in our identity. We are also exploring cultures in various countries. We have been learning about the states of matter in Science and the characteristics that make up these states. In art we are exploring how we can express our identity through art. P AGE 8 W AWOTA P ARKLAND S CHOOL

Orange Shirt Day is the yearly practice of the Residential School Commemoration Project, de- signed as a way to commemorate the lives of all of the victims of residential schools. It’s a day to understand the horrors these people went through and accept the darkest moments of our nation’s history. On September 30th, many staff and students at Wawota Parkland School wore orange shirts to show our focus on our hope for a better future in which children are empowered to help each

As the new school year begins the SLC is happy to begin planning fun and engaging activities and spirit days for the school year. We are ex- cited to welcome all new staff and students that have joined us at the school this year, especially those that have found time to join the SLC. We are hoping this year will be one our best because our SLC council is larger than it has been in almost 5 years. This year our goal as a group is to make coming to school an enjoyable experi- ence for every single student. We are planning on creating this environment through fun and interactive activities and spirit days. We also plan to organize two school wide fundraisers throughout the year. Make sure to watch our Facebook page for new and exciting updates from this years Wawota Parkland SLC. SLC HALLOWEEN SPIRIT WEEK
