Charlotte and Lydia took a 3hour coaching session with the girls passing Brading Coaches U13 League Northwood CC on valuable tips and advice. The England Women’s team have been lead by Charlotte this year to a clean sweep of world titles as well as Brading Coaches U13 Cup Northwood CC retaining the Ashes. Charlotte and Lydia were both impressed with the standard of the Girls and Newclose CCG. The Islands Senior team had the honour of playing Derbyshire in a very early pre-season game at Newclose in March. Watching Derbyshire train for three days, you got a real appreciation of the hard work and most importantly the quality of there training, showing the islands youngster that you never stop improving how ever good you maybe. The senior team found themselves in the final of the Reader’s Sovereign Trophy, where they lost to the Mid Essex League by 98 runs in the final at Teddington CC. The Annual MCC game was unfortunately affected by the weather. The Islands County Age group Squads once again found the going very tough out there, but even through we lost many games, we saw some success and a steady progress across all age groups. Adam Hose lead the Under 17 to a first innings win against Dorset at Newclose, with Tommy Barton hitting 89 not out and Adam scoring 87. Marco Mills topped the bowling against Dorset with 5-34 off 12 overs. There were many other good performances in the other games, like Cameron Mitchell scoring 96 against Gloucestershire, James Cheek 71 off the bat and 4-65 with the ball against Berkshire. The Under 15 and 13 both had extremely tough seasons in their respective ECB competitions. The 15’s managed a hard fought draw against Oxfordshire. The 13’s did not manage a win in the ECB competition but competed hard all season long and showed considerable development through out the year. Our under 11 team had a shortened season as games fell foul to the weather and only completed 3 games, but won against South Wiltshire CC, Jadon Buckeridge top scoring with 53 and Ben Duggan 46. The Malvern Festival was the destination for the Under 10’s once again. The boys played three games over the 4 days with some excellent individual performances, which bodes well for the future. The Under 13 & 15 Girls completed their season showing some great improvement, and won three games this year. Alex Barton was the pick of the girls being select to trial for the Junior Super Twos. The disabled team won their league with a 100% record and reach the Semi Finals where they lost a well-spirited game to Cheshire at Shanklin CC. The Board would like to say a massive thank you to all the Team Managers, Coaches, Umpires and Scorers, Sponsors and Parents for making it possible to complete the Islands County Teams programme. With out this support it would make the season impossible to complete.     GLOUCESTERSHIRE CRICKET BOARD What We Do About the GCB The Gloucestershire Cricket Board (GCB) is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for all recreational cricket across the county, creating links between schools, clubs, leagues and the community. Based at The County Ground in Bristol, we oversee everything from county and district youth teams to groundsmanship and disability cricket. We also support the training of coaches, officials and groundsmen. The GCB has more than 200 affiliated clubs and we are committed to helping them increase their memberships and improve their facilities. Each year the Board coaches more than 10,000 children across 200 schools, trains around 200 new coaches and young leaders and runs 35 representative teams. Affiliated to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) our goal is to develop a fun and enabling environment in which more people in Gloucestershire play and are involved in cricket. 1 Performance Raising the standard of cricket in Gloucestershire and developing future professionals The GCB runs 35 representative teams across its county and district programme. This includes eight boys county squads from under 10s to under 17s and girls As well as enjoying team success, a number of our young players teams at under 13, 15 and 17 level. The purpose of the county academy system is to develop players capable of performing at first class and International level. Established in 2003, the Kent Cricket Academy gives talented young cricketers, aged 16 – 19, an opportunity to benefit from professional training and education wHilst still at scHool or college. The introduction of an ‘associate’ academy aims to provide additional support and development opportunities to players, aged 16 – 19, who Have the future potential to gain a place on the full academy programme. Sussex’s Sarah Taylor scored her seventh one-day hundred as England beat South Africa by 69 runs at The 1st Central County Ground to set up a decider in the three-match series at Canterbury on Friday. The 29-year-old was named Player of the Match for her 118 from 106 balls. She shared a second- wicket partnership of 156 in 23 overs with opener Tammy Beaumont, whose 101 was her fourth ODI century in the last two years. They helped England to an imposing total of 331-6 from their 50 overs but South Africa were kept in contention by a superb 117 from opener Lizelle Lee, who pressed the accelerator after a circumspect start, racing from 69 to 100 in just 14 balls. It took a Sussex combination to make the breakthrough when Lee, who hit 13 fours and five sixes, was caught at backward point by Danni Wyatt off Georgia Elwiss, who had just returned to the attack at the Cromwell Road End. With the required rate above nine an over by then, South Africa’s race was run and they finished on 262-9 with Elwiss taking 1 for 43 from eight overs. Both she and Wyatt held two catches. England captain Heather Knight admitted she wasn’t sure what she would have done had she won the toss. Pupils and staff set off at 4 am to be at Lord’s Cricket ground in London for 9.30 am. At the world famous ground, England Cricket Captain, Charlotte Edwards, delivered the lesson in the successful attempt to try and beat the previous record holders, Australia. A picnic lunch was eaten on the ground and the pupils arrived back in Halifax shattered, but proud record breakers (see back page for more photos). Many thanks to Mr Brooksby, Mr Gallagher, Mr Crossley, Mrs Blackburn, Mrs Clark and Miss Jamieson for giving of their time for this long day and for the ‘ChancetoShine’ charity for paying for the coach.
