2 World Record Holders KEEPING THE OLYMPIC FLAME ALIVE ! Weekly ACHIEVEMENT LING BOB: Guard of Honour to the NEWSLETTER UNITED ARAB EMIRATES Olympic Team, London 2012 Volume 13: No 39 21st July 2017 www.lingbob.calderdale.sch.uk International Links 2 WORLD RECORD HOLDERS Forty six pupils from Y5 and Y6 were part of the group who successfully took part in a ’Chance to Shine’ Guinness Book of Records world record for the longest cricket lesson ever delivered. Pupils and staff set off at 4 am to be at Lord’s Cricket ground in London for 9.30 am. At the world famous ground, England Cricket Captain, Charlotte Edwards, delivered the lesson in the successful attempt to try and beat the previous record holders, Australia. A picnic lunch was eaten on the ground and the pupils arrived back in Halifax shattered, but proud record breakers (see back page for more photos). Many thanks to Mr Brooksby, Mr Gallagher, Mr Crossley, Mrs Blackburn, Mrs Clark and Miss Jamieson for giving of their time for this long day and for the ‘ChancetoShine’ charity for paying for the coach. From getting Billy Marsh up in the very early hours of the morning, Brooksby Olympic & Paralympic Values Award travelling over 400 miles, spending a full day Lee Youdan bowling, batting, catching and supervising, under a very hot summer sun, and all of this with the most enormous smiles. You are a credit to Ling Bob School, and I am incredibly proud of Solan Creative Arts Award: what you have each achieved personally and for Emily Scholefield our whole school community. Well done! Good luck to all the year 6 pupils going up to their new high schools, and those staff who are Befriender of the Year moving on too, have a fantastic summer.” Millie Beaumont LING BOB WORLD RECORD #2 Congratulations to former Ling Bob School pupil, Play Leader of the Year Hannah Cockroft who set a new World Record for T34 100 m at the World Para Athletics Championships Romeo Bryant in a time of 17.8 seconds MCC ‘Spirit of Cricket’ Ben Davies-Watters Roach Shield for Excellence in Sport Cody Harrison The House Championship Winners 2017 St Patrick’s ‘The J-Stig’ and Clark on OnTrak Racing All Key Stage 2 pupils who had made all their Targets this year were treated to Go Karting at OnTrak Go Karting in Bradford. 16 pupils went on the trip and were accompanied by Mr Gallagher (AKA “The J- Stig”), Mrs Clark(son), Mr “The Snail”-Simpson and cameraman Mr Tipton. Pupils were given a helmet and special overalls to wear and then learnt how to drive the carts safely before putting their skills to the test around the track for two solo rides of 15 minutes against each other. The “J-Stig” was in his element and came away thinking that he had won, although this is disputed by Mrs Clark(son)! Congratulations who all took part and to OnTrak Karting, Bradford. Summer Term Golden Breakfast Delight Mrs Jabeen’s class won the Golden Ticket Breakfast for getting the most tickets for good manners and behaviour in the dinner hall. They were treated to a special breakfast made by Chef and also served by Mr Tipton. The breakfast included pastries, fruit, yoghurts, meat and cheese. “It was amazing,” said Ava-Mai, “and I would like to think we would win the prize again next year. Thanks to Chef for preparing all the food.” Gymnastic Proficiency Awards and Key Steps Key Steps Gymnastics Awards were presented to the Gymnastics school team Members: Katie-Jade Stanger, Charlie Metcalf, Isabelle Brook and Katy-Anne Crabtree. Congratulations to the following children who have gained awards in the British Gymnastics Proficiency Awards: Level 5 - Isabelle Brook and George Blackbond. Key Stage 1 Pupils View AT VUE 16 infant pupils made the trip to the Vue Cinema for achieving all their targets this term. They watched “DespicableMe3” And thought that it was a fantastic experience, which will hopefully motivate them to work hard again next year. Thanks to Miss Scully and staff for organising the event. House captains received the golden trophy in the final assembly and all other House members received a winner’s certificate. Successfully Strengthening Families The school have delivered another successful Strengthening Families course. Some of the parents who took part commented that ‘The course has helped me for managing behaviour, giving me tips on different consequences’; ‘I found the sessions very helpful and also enjoyable, learning something different every session’. All parents and carers who took part received a certificate and had a special ceremony with their children. Look out for the next Strengthening Families course that will be available next academic year. JBo REWARDING ATTENDANCE The overall school attendance was above the national average of 96% - very well done everyone!! We say thank you and good bye to Mr Gallagher, who is moving to another school in the Midlands, to Mrs Dinning who is retiring and last but not least Mr Brooksby who is retiring after 19 years at Ling Bob (15 as Deputy Head), he also had a surprise presentation made to him on the pitch at Lord’s Cricket Ground during the recent trip to Lord’s for his services to ‘Chance to Shine’ cricket.     GLOUCESTERSHIRE CRICKET BOARD What We Do About the GCB The Gloucestershire Cricket Board (GCB) is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for all recreational cricket across the county, creating links between schools, clubs, leagues and the community. Based at The County Ground in Bristol, we oversee everything from county and district youth teams to groundsmanship and disability cricket. We also support the training of coaches, officials and groundsmen. The GCB has more than 200 affiliated clubs and we are committed to helping them increase their memberships and improve their facilities. Each year the Board coaches more than 10,000 children across 200 schools, trains around 200 new coaches and young leaders and runs 35 representative teams. Affiliated to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) our goal is to develop a fun and enabling environment in which more people in Gloucestershire play and are involved in cricket. 1 Performance Raising the standard of cricket in Gloucestershire and developing future professionals The GCB runs 35 representative teams across its county and district programme. Sussex’s Sarah Taylor scored her seventh one-day hundred as England beat South Africa by 69 runs at The 1st Central County Ground to set up a decider in the three-match series at Canterbury on Friday.
