Founded in 1963 as Essays in French Literature by the late James R. Lawler, the journal ESSAYS expanded its name in 2005 to Essays in French Literature and Culture as it opened its IN pages to global currents in French studies more broadly. FRENCH Published by the French programme at The University of Western Australia, Essays is a scholarly refereed journal with an international editorial board and advisory board. LITERATURE and CULTURE Professor Hélène Jaccomard is currently Managing Editor and Associate Professor Bonnie Thomas is Associate Editor.

CONTENTS Each of the journal’s yearly issues covers a particular theme relevant to French and Francophone literatures and cultures, reflecting current intellectual, cultural and literary debates.
