Visit to ’s High Power Transmitter Station

Summary: AS a part of curriculum, the department of E&TC has organized industrial visit of BE students to Doordarshan’s High Power Transmitter Station at Sinhgad Fort on 21/01/17 and 28/01/2017. The students and faculty members of E&TC department has visited the station. Two authorities from Doordarshan, Mr. R. R. Shaikh (Senior Engineer), & Mr. Nair M. (Senior Engineer), have explained various sections of the transmitter station.

1. Transmitters: • BEL: 10KW BEL Transmitter operating on Channel # 5 (175.25 MHz) for DD-I installed in the year 1989 was replaced by R & S 10 KW Transmitter on 23.03.2015. • NEC: 10KW NEC Transmitter operating on Channel # 29 (frequency-535.25 MHz) for DD News was commissioned on 15th July 2002. • Both the transmitters are located at Sinhagad Fort at an altitude of 1260 meters (MSL) which is 35 Kms away from Doordarshan Kendra, office. In addition to these two Transmitters and associated facilities, the other infrastructure at the site are as below : 1. AIR FM transmitter 2. IGNOU FM transmitter 3. Three private FM transmitter • The transmitters are covering entire Pune district (around 70 Km radius). Height of the self-supporting tower with extension (10m) on which antennas are mounted is 110 mtrs. • Three Nos. of Parabolic Dish Antenna (PDA) (Size 6.3 mtrs – 2 Nos. and 7.5 mtrs – 1 No.) are provided to receive programmes of DD National, DD News and DD Sahyadri at HPT Complex.

2. POWER SUPPLY ARRANGEMENT AT HPT, SINHGAD: - Incoming Power Supply : 22 KV - Capacity of input power transformer: 250 KVA - Contracted MAX Demand: 175 KVA - Maximum demand for the month: 164 KVA - 2 Nos of 62.5 KVA & 1 No. 82.5 KVA DG sets. - NEC transmitter is provided with 60 KVA online UPS. - R & S transmitter is provided with 80 KVA online UPS.

3. Antennas: The transmitting antenna is dipole antenna which is installed on 100mtrs high tower having range of approx. 135-150 kms for telecast.
