The taxonomic status of S. storeyae is re-evaluated.The scaber group now includes four species, all from central Cuba, Isla de Juventud, and the Archipielago de los Canarreos:S. oliveri, S. richardi,S. scaber, and S. storeyae. RESUMEN.- Se describe una nueva especie de salamanquita,Sphaerodactylus richardi, que habita en la region cerca de Playa Gir6n, Matanzas,Cuba. Se distingue del resto de las especies del Grupo scaber por los patrones de 5-6 bandas transversalesy escamas dorsales grande y aquilladas. Ctenosaura Defensor (Cope, 1866)
Ctenosaura defensor (Cope, 1866). The Yucatecan Spiny-tailed Iguana, a regional endemic in the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula, is distributed in the Tabascan Plains and Marshes, Karstic Hills and Plains of Campeche, and Yucatecan Karstic Plains regions in the states of Campeche, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán (Lee, 1996; Calderón-Mandujano and Mora-Tembre, 2004), at elevations from near “sea level to 100 m” (Köhler, 2008). In the original description by Cope (1866), the type locality was given as “Yucatán,” but Smith and Taylor (1950: 352) restricted it to “Chichén Itzá, Yucatán, Mexico.” This lizard has been reported to live on trees with hollow limbs, into which they retreat when approached (Lee, 1996), and individuals also can be found in holes in limestone rocks (Köhler, 2002). Lee (1996: 204) indicated that this species lives “mainly in the xeric thorn forests of the northwestern portion of the Yucatán Peninsula, although they are also found in the tropical evergreen forests of northern Campeche.” This colorful individual was found in low thorn forest 5 km N of Sinanché, in the municipality of Sinanché, in northern coastal Yucatán. Wilson et al. (2013a) determined its EVS as 15, placing it in the lower portion of the high vulnerability category. Its conservation status has been assessed as Vulnerable by the IUCN, and as endangered (P) by SEMARNAT. ' © Javier A. Through an extensive review of information on Cuban herpetofauna, including protected area management plans, we present the first comprehensive inventory of introduced amphibians and reptiles in the Cuban archipelago. We classify species as Invasive, Established Non-invasive, Not Established, and Transported. We document the arrival of 26 species, five amphibians and 21 reptiles, in more than 35 different introduction events. Of the 26 species, we identify 11 species (42.3%), one amphibian and 10 reptiles, as established, with nine of them being invasive: Lithobates catesbeianus, Caiman crocodilus, Hemidactylus mabouia, H. angulatus, H. frenatus, Gonatodes albogularis, Sphaerodactylus argus, Gymnophthalmus underwoodi, and Indotyphlops braminus. We present the introduced range of each of the 26 species in the Cuban archipelago as well as the other Caribbean islands and document historical records, the population sources, dispersal pathways, introduction events, current status of distribution, and impacts. -

Based on molecular phylogenetic analyses, the new species is nested within the Goniurosaurus yingdeensis species group. However, morphological analyses cannot ascribe it to any known species of that group. It is distinguished from the other three species in the group by a combination of the following characters: scales around midbody 121–128; dorsal tubercle rows at midbody 16–17; presence of 10–11 precloacal pores in males, and absent in females; nuchal loop and body bands immaculate, without black spots; iris orange, gradually darker on both sides. -

LC Paper No. CB(1)501/20-21(01) LC Paper No. CB(X)XXX/20-21(XX) For information Legislative Council Panel on Environmental Affairs Proposed Amendments to the Schedules to the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance (Cap. 586) INTRODUCTION This note informs Members of the proposed amendments to the Schedules to the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance (Cap. 586) (the Ordinance) to reflect the latest decisions of the Conference of Parties (CoP) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). BACKGROUND 2. CITES is an international treaty between governments to ensure that international trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. CITES requires that the international trade of the endangered species listed in its three Appendices1 be subject to strict control. CITES regulates international trade through a system of permits/certificates under which the species in question would require a permit/certificate when leaving and entering a country. 3. Hong Kong has been implementing CITES through local legislation2 since 1976. The Ordinance stipulates that a licence to be issued in advance by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) is required for the import, introduction from the sea, export, re- 1 Appendix I: Listing of species which are highly endangered and threatened with extinction. Eyelid geckos (Eublepharidae) are of particular interest, as they encompass species with both environmental and genotypic sex determination. We identified for the first time the X-specific gene content in the Yucatán banded gecko, Coleonyx elegans, possessing X1X1X2X2/X1X2Y multiple sex chromosomes by comparative genome coverage analysis between sexes. The X-specific gene content of Coleonyx elegans was revealed to be partially homologous to genomic regions linked to the chicken autosomes 1, 6 and 11. A qPCR-based test was applied to validate a subset of X-specific genes by comparing the difference in gene copy numbers between sexes, and to explore the homology of sex chromosomes across eleven eublepharid, two phyllodactylid and one sphaerodactylid species. Homologous sex chromosomes are shared between Coleonyx elegans and Coleonyx mitratus, two species diverged approximately 34 million years ago, but not with other tested species. As far as we know, the X-specific gene content of Coleonyx elegans / Coleonyx mitratus was never involved in the sex chromosomes of other gecko lineages, indicating that the sex chromosomes in this clade of eublepharid geckos evolved independently. -

Dust food with calcium powder daily & a multivitamin once a week. Feed them the amount they will eat in 10 minutes. Worms can be left in the food bowl. Provide hiding spots such as cork bark or commercially available hides to mimic the gecko’s natural environment. Chinese Cave Geckos may be kept alone or in pairs. If housed together geckos should be of similar size to avoid injury. Never house two males together in the same tank. Two females generally get along well. A male and female will likely breed if housed together. Size - An adult must have a minimum cage size of 20” Long x 10” Deep x 12” High, also known as a 10-gallon tank. A screen lid is recommended for safety. Substrate - Due to humidity requirements an absorbent substrate is desired. Peat moss or coconut fiber are preferred. Temperature - A Chinese Cave Gecko’s enclosure temperature should be between 65-75°F. Humidity - Mist their enclosures once to twice a day with a spray bottle. Substrate should be allowed to dry out some between mistings. -
