The dataset contains more than 24,000 records of rodent and insectivore species from 23 districts, including Saransk. A major part of the data set was obtained during expedition research and at the biological station. The work is based on the materials of our surveys of rodents and insectivo- rous mammals conducted in Mordovia using both trap lines and pitfall arrays using traditional methods. Received: 22 March 2020 Accepted: 23 May 2020 Abstract Republic of Mordovia in Russia is a historical focus for hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and tularemia. This study aimed at assessing the current status of these foci by studying their rodent reservoirs. Among the small rodents in Mordovia, the red bank vole, the common vole and the house mouse play an important role as carriers of zoonotic diseases. However, it is neces- sary to take into account the role of such а small species as forest dormouse (Dryomys nitedula), which has a high percentage of infection. Of all examined dormice, 66.7 % were found to have antigens of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome viral pathogen, and 33.3 % - to have antigens of tularemia pathogen. Only one specimen (16.7 %) was found to have no antigens of zoonotic diseases. Our study concluded that the forest dormouse in the Republic of Mordovia was incrim- inated as a pathogen reservoir causing infectious diseases in human. It is well known that lizards can be infected by a subgenus of Leishmania parasites, i.e. Sauroleishmania, which is non-pathogenic to humans. However, evidence suggests that lizards may also harbor pathogenic Leishmania species including the undetermined Leishmania sp., discovered in our previous work. Leishmania DNA in lizard blood can be detected by using molecular methods, such as the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results: Three hundred and sixteen lizards, representing 13 species of four genera, were captured for blood samples collection in Northwest China. Two reliable molecular markers (cytochrome b and heat shock protein 70 genes) were used for detection in the lizard blood samples, to confirm a widespread presence of pathogenic Leishmania parasites and the distribution pattern of Leishmania spp. in lizards from Northwest China. The PCR data indicated positive detection rate for Leishmania in all the tested lizards with an overall prevalence of 57.91% (183/316). Apart from lizard parasites like Leishmania tarentolae and Leishmania sp., several pathogenic Leishmania including L. turanica, L. tropica and L. donovani complex were identified by using phylogenetic analysis. Co-existence of different haplotypes was observed in most Leishmania DNA-positive lizards with an overall rate of 77.6% (142/183). -

1 PUBLIC HEALTH Institutional Developments During the Commission’s 2018 reporting year, the Chinese gov- ernment and Communist Party implemented institutional reforms to support evolving public health priorities.1 For example, in March 2018, authorities announced a plan to restructure Party and gov- ernment agencies, including merging the National Health and Family Planning Commission and other agencies into a new Na- tional Health Commission.2 According to the plan, the new commis- sion will turn its focus away from treatment of disease to health more broadly, including such issues as China’s aging population.3 A July 2018 State Council General Office guiding opinion further clarified the new commission’s role, and called for implementation of Party policy and strengthened Party leadership.4 Authorities also engaged in international exchanges focused on public health issues, in line with recent official public health policy.5 For exam- ple, the Chinese government hosted an international symposium on HIV/AIDS in Beijing municipality in November 2017.6 The Sep- tember 2017 inaugural U.S.-China Social and Cultural Dialogue in- cluded health among areas for potential bilateral cooperation.7 Health-Based Discrimination Health-based discrimination in employment and education con- tinued,8 despite protections in Chinese law.9 In one case reported in August 2017, authorities in Fuzhou municipality, Fujian prov- ince, cited physical examination results as grounds to deny a teach- ing job to Lin Chuanhua, whose right hand is missing and who achieved -

That same year, when the EU and China agreed to formally publish the list of 200 geographical indications, Jinghe goji berries were accepted as one. “Being listed as one of the GIs helps us gain media attention from media and garner a larger group of customers,” Zhang said, adding that even with the negative effects on trade brought by the COVID-19 pan- demic, the company received orders for more than 1,000 tons of goji ber- ries from foreign clients last year. Apart from fresh and dried goji ber- ries, the company makes juices, wines and healthcare products from the fruit, which is rich in nutrients, to develop a well-rounded industry chain. Zhang pointed out that the next step is to increase yields. He views the China-EU agreement as an opportunity to revitalize the goji ber- ry industry in Xinjiang and the rest of China. Currently, Jinghe goji berry plan- tations cover 7,280 hectares in the county. There are 25 cultivation cooperatives, with more than 6,500 goji berry growers and 13 companies that can process the fruit, said Zhao Yuling, director of the county’s goji berry industry development bureau. Box 321 Khartoum, Sudan Non-geographic morphometric variation particularly at the level of sexual dimorphism and age variation has been extensively documented in many organisms including rodents, and is useful for establishing whether to analyse sexes separately or together and for selecting adult specimens to consider for subsequent data recording and analysis. However, such studies have largely been based on linear measurement-based traditional morphometric analyses that mainly focus on the partitioning of overall size- rather than shape-related morphological variation. Nevertheless, recent advances in unit-free, landmark/outline-based geometric morphometric analyses offer a new tool to assess shape-related morphological variation. In the present study, we used geometric morphometric analysis to comparatively evaluate non-geographic variation in two geographically disparate murid rodent species, Aethmoys ineptus from South Africa and Arvicanthis niloticus from Sudan , the results of which are also compared with previously published results based on traditional morphometric data. Our results show that while the results of the traditional morphometric analyses of both species were congruent, they were not sensitive enough to detect some signals of non-geographic morphological variation. -

DOI: 10.4202/app.2008.0001 Hypnomys morpheus is a giant endemic dormouse from the Pleistocene deposits of Mallorca and Menorca (Balearic Is− lands, Spain). The present paper aims to interpret the morphological divergence between the mandibles of Hypnomys and of its extant relative Eliomys, the outline of the mandible being used as a marker of the morphological divergence. By comparison with the mandible of Eliomys, the more massive mandible of Hypnomys has recorded an ecological shift of the insular lineage towards a more abrasive diet, including hard vegetable matter, and a different niche. A microwear anal− ysis of the teeth of Hypnomys was simultaneously performed as it can shed light on the diet, and is independent from the comparison of the mandibles. Hypnomys possibly ate harder food items than Eliomys, and likely occupied most of the is− land environments. Hypnomys appears to have differentiated from its ancestral type toward a more generalized morphol− ogy because of the lack of competitors. We studied population density of the forest dormouse in the Middle Volga, where forest dormice in 2013-2019 were recorded in 30% of investigated biotopes, being 4–70 ha in size. In Mordovia, the average densities of the local population were 2.4 ind./ha. The abundance of the local population was stable, and the sex ratio was approaching 1:1 among all individuals. One-year-old dormice comprised more than 50% of the population. Our data indicate that the home area of forest dormouse near human houses is within a radius of less than 100 m from the houses. This data is less than for the forest. This indicates that the animals next to humans artificially reduce their home area, as they are fully provided with food resources.
