The Anglo-Israel Association At the time of writing, the nature of the next government both in Israel and the United Kingdom is unknown. Even in the most stable of states there is political uncertainty from time and wishes everyone an to time. The particular cause of concern for the Anglo-Israel Association is, however, the growth of anti-Semitism in the political life of the United Kingdom. In particular, the reality enjoyable evening that the Labour party, which has historically had such a good record in this respect, now appears to be tarnished. It is not so much a perception of one or two individuals at the top but more broadly a culture of intolerance. Such unexpected problems in our society make the work of the Anglo-Israel Association all the more important. In particular, it is important to enhance the links between the United Kingdom and Israel – political, social and economic. The Anglo-Israel Association through its Ambassadors’ Round Tables in particular, has sought to bring scientists from both countries together. Such work – in which the medium is high level knowledge for the good of humanity – stands in stark contrast to the crude stereotyping which is now surprisingly prevalent. The practical benefits are felt by those patients in the NHS who have gained so much from the inventiveness of Israeli scientists. It is worth always keeping in mind this quiet but effective interchange between the UK and Israel. At times, the noise of angry rhetoric tends to drown out such good work. But as long as AIA survives there will always be a strong voice insisting on its essential significance and value.
