  • Dev.D 1 Dev.D Is an Indian Romantic Drama Film Released on 6 February
Dev.D 1 Dev.D Dev D Theatrical release poster Directed by Anurag Kashyap Produced by Ronnie Screwvala Written by Anurag Kashyap Vikramaditya Motwane Based on Devdas by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay Starring Abhay Deol Mahie Gill Kalki Koechlin Music by Amit Trivedi Cinematography Rajeev Ravi Edited by Aarti Bajaj Release date(s) •• 6 February 2009 Running time 144 min Budget 60 million (US$1.0 million) Box office 215.0 million (US$3.6 million) (domestic gross) Dev.D is an Indian romantic drama film released on 6 February 2009. Written and directed by Anurag Kashyap, it is a modern-day take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic Bengali novel Devdas,[1] previously adapted for the screen by P.C. Barua and Bimal Roy and more recently by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.[2] Dev.D was embraced by the media, critics and public. The film is set in contemporary Punjab and Delhi, where familial ties are negotiated by the traditions of patriarchy and marriages are reduced to a game of power and "honour". Plot Dev (Abhay Deol) is the son of a rich businessman. He and Paro (Mahi Gill) are childhood sweethearts. But Dev, being an insecure narcissist, instead of acknowledging her affection and care, nudges Paro over frivolous things. Dev is sent to London for higher studies when his father senses how spoilt his son is. While separated by distance, Paro and Dev's youthful love only blossoms more. Dev arrives in Chandigarh to meet Paro. Their endeavor to make love makes for some dark comic moments. The seeds of suspicion are sown here, which the couple will never be able to weed out for a lifetime.

  • SHORT FILM COMPILATIONS ECFA Survey on Short Film Compilations in European Theatres
SHORT FILM COMPILATIONS ECFA survey on short film compilations in European theatres LABAN THE LITTLE GHOST, SPOT & SPLODGE, TOOTLETUBS & JYRO, LITTLE ANNA & THE TALL UNCLE... Short film compilations have been touring in European cinemas and festivals, serving the needs of the very youngest pre-school audience. Ivan Lo Guidice, for ECFA, coordinated a small survey on the pro’s and con’s of presenting such compilations to this unique audience. Thanks to the cooperation of the ECFA members - film institutes, distributors, festivals and cultural organizations - we gained a better understanding of the situation in various European countries. Little Anna & the tall uncle Thanks to their main characteristics such as length and storyline, shorts seem to be a product that suits toddlers, their expectations and needs. Even if shorts are commercially less appealing than features, most of the big inter- national film festivals include in their program a special section of short films. Our goal is to understand more about the potential of series of short films, compiled together for the youngest audience and their likelihood to be distributed in multiplexes and theatres. Basic question First we needed an answer to the basic question: have you already organised screenings of short film compilati- ons for children in cinemas? We are talking about a minimum of three shorts and total length of the program between 40 and 75 minutes. In case of film festivals we were interested in the screenings organised beyond those included in the festival program. Approximately 62% of the interviewees organise screenings of short film com- pilations while 38% do not.

He read it in an hour, gave it back to me, went back to what he was doing and told me that one day he will produce this film, that nobody else will. I wanted to smack him then. But it turned out that he was right. In March 2009, after years of trying to get a producer on board, Anurag and his friend Sanjay Singh raised enough money for me to turn that same script into a film. They packed me off to shoot and backed me all the way to make the film I always wanted to.
