The Wireless LAN Access Point 2220 is an 802.11a/802.11b Access Point. The Wireless LAN Access Point 2221 is an 802.11b Access Point. Your Access Point may be pre-configured at the factory for a specific country. Country-specific configuration must be done using the command line interface (CLI). Note: If your device was pre-configured at the factory for your specific country, you do not need to configure the country setting. Pre-configured Access Points are labeled as pre-configured. If you have a pre-configured Access Point 2220/2221, refer to Using the Nortel Networks Wireless LAN Access Point 2220/2221 (part number 215737-A) to complete configuration of the Access Point 2220/2221 for your network and to enable the appropriate 802.11 radios. You access the CLI using Telnet or a direct serial connection to the unit from a terminal or personal computer (PC). For information on accessing the CLI, refer to Using the Nortel Networks Wireless LAN Access Point 2220/2221 (part number 215737-A). Note: If the Access Point 2220/2221 is reset to factory defaults, you must reconfigure the device for your country or region. Because you cannot change the country code on pre-configured units, this step is not required if your Access Point 2220/2221 is pre-configured at the factory with a specific country. Determining the country code To properly configure the Access Point 2220/2221, you must determine the two-letter code for you country or region. To determine the country code for your region: 1 Telnet or open the console connection to the Access Point 2220/2221. When you have connected to the Access Point 2220/2221, you will see the following prompt: Username: Country-specific Configuration for the Nortel Networks Wireless LAN Access Point 2220/2221 4 Configuring the country setting 2 Enter: nortel You will see the following prompt: Password: 3 The default is no password. Press Enter. The EXEC mode prompt appears: Nortel Enterprise AP# 4 Enter: country ? The list of available country codes appears (Figure 1). Figure 1 Available country codes (The country code list that appears on your device may appear slightly different. Refer to the list on your device when setting the country code.) You only need to enter the two-letter country code. 1 Enter: country XX (where XX is the two-letter country code for your region) 2 Press Enter. 3 To ensure the Access Point 2220/2221 is properly configured for your region, reset the unit. Enter: reset board The system displays the following prompt: Reboot system now? <y/n>: 4 Enter y to perform a reset of the access point. The Access Point 2220/2221 is now properly configured for your region. To complete configuration of the Access Point 2220/2221 for your network and to enable the appropriate 802.11 radios, refer to Using the Nortel Networks Wireless LAN Access Point 2220/2221 (part number 215737-A). Turbo Mode (not applicable to Access Point 2221) Turbo Mode is an enhanced wireless LAN operating mode that can provide a higher data rate. When you enable the 802.11a Turbo Mode, the Access Point uses two adjacent 802.11a channels to achieve higher bandwidth. The use of Turbo Mode is not allowed in all regions. Before enabling Turbo Mode, verify that Turbo Mode is allowed under your current local regulations. For information on enabling Turbo Mode, refer to Using the Nortel Networks Wireless LAN Access Point 2220/ 2221 (part number 215737-A). Country-specific Configuration for the Nortel Networks Wireless LAN Access Point 2220/2221 6 How to get help How to get help If you purchased a service contract for your Nortel Networks product from a distributor or authorized reseller, contact the technical support staff for that distributor or reseller for assistance. If you purchased a Nortel Networks service program, contact Nortel Networks Technical Support. From the Technical Support page, you can open a Customer Service Request online or find the telephone number for the nearest Technical Solutions Center. If you are not connected to the Internet, you can call 1-800-4NORTEL (1-800-466-7835) to learn the telephone number for the nearest Technical Solutions Center. An Express Routing Code (ERC) is available for many Nortel Networks products and services. When you use an ERC, your call is routed to a technical support person who specializes in supporting that product or service.
