I Meetings
From January 11 to 16, the Library Society of China Secretary-general Work Meeting 2003 was held in Kunming, Yunnan province.
On February 24, the Rescue Project of Chinese Rare Books second-phase catalogue selection & second work meeting of the Ancient Books Compilation Professional Committee, which was hosted by our library, was held in Beijing.
On March 29, the catalogue selection meeting of the Rescue Project of Chinese Rare Books compilation and publication committee, which was hosted by our library, was held in Beijing.
From April 17 to 20, the National Library Information Reference Work Academic Workshop, which was jointly hosted by our library and the Professional Committee of User Research and
Service of the Library Society of China, was held at our library.
On June 10, the National Library of China Second-phase Project & National Digital Library
Project Architecture Design Site Exploration, which was hosted by our library, was held in
Wenhuitang of our library.
From August 1 to 9, 93 persons in the library community from 80 libraries of 16 provinces, cities, autonomous regions across the country, which were organized by the Library Society of China, attended the 69th General Conference of the International Federation of Library Associations and
Institutions held in Berlin, Germany.
From September 14 to 16, the National Library Ancient Book Work Meeting 2003 was held in
Beijing by our library.
From September 15 to 16, the 29th branch session of the Academic Annual Conference of Chinese
Technology Association 2003, namely the academic workshop of Information Navigator—Provide
Knowledge Service for Economic Construction and Scientific Innovation, which was hosted by the Library Society of China, was held in the library of Shenyang Normal University.
On September 15, the Collaborative Conference on Ancient Books between Libraries and
Publishing Houses was held in Beijing by our library.
From September 16 to 18, the International Symposium on Dunhuang Manuscripts Restoration and Digitalization was held in Beijing by our library.
From October 24 to 26, the 8th National Joint Meeting of the Directors of the Libraries of
Provinces, Autonomous Regions, Municipalities Directly under the Central Government and
Larger Cities, which was hosted by our library and undertaken by the Library of Guilin, Guangxi
Zhuang Autonomous Region, was held in Guilin, Guangxi.
From December 2 to 3, the 2003 Sino-German Theme Library Academic Exchange Meeting, which was jointly hosted by the Exchange and Cooperation Committee of the Library Society of
China, the Xicheng District Library and Goethe-Institute, Peking, was held in the Xicheng District
Library.

From January 6 to 10, the Training Center held the Middle School and Primary School Library
Book Classification Training Class at our library and 17 persons attended the training.
From March 24 to 28, the Library Society of China held the Library Database Construction
Workshop in Beijing, and 82 persons attended the training.
From March 24 to 28, the Training Center held Computer Cataloging and Management of Chinese and Western Continued Publications training class at our library, and 47 persons attended the training.
From April 1 to 4, the Training Center held the Western Book Acquisitions and Cataloging training class at our library, and 47 persons attended the training.
On May 27, the Training Center held the National Library of China Office Automation System training at our library, and 60 persons attended the training.
On June 4, the Training Center held the National Library of China Office Automation System training at our library, and 83 persons attended the training.

From August 3 to 8, the Library Society of China held the Information Resource Digitalization and Digital Library Construction Workshop in Qingdao city, and 119 persons attended the training.
From August 9 to 13, the Library Society of China held the Western Document Description
Regulation (revised edition) Training Class in Qingdao, and 102 persons attended the training.
On August 14, the Training Center held the training of Thinking about Library Development at our library, and 51 persons attended the training.
On September 4, the Training Center held the training of Introduction to the Queens Borough Public Library of New York of America, and 20 persons attended the training.

From September 26 to 29, the Training Center held the training class of Chinese Document
Indexing Work at Dalian Library, and 100 persons attended the training.
From October 9 to 13, the Online Library Cataloging Center held the training class of the Electric
Resource Description Rules, Electric Resource Machine-Readable Catalogue Use Manual in Xi’an city, and 30 persons attended the training.
From October 25 to 29, the Online Library Cataloging Center held the Description Rules of
Chinese Continued Publication Machine-Readable Catalogues in Sichuan Province, and 50 persons attended the training.
On October 12, the Training Center held the training of Copyright Problems and Solutions of the Library at our library, and 25 persons attended the training.
From October 25 to 28, the Training Center held the Document Classification Training Class at the
Library of Urumqi city of Xinjiang, and 70 persons attended the training.
From October 27 to 31, the Library Society of China held the Joint Cataloging and Metadata
Processing Technology Workshop in Guilin city, and 108 persons attended the training.
From November 10 to 12, the Training Center held the Chinese Continued Publications training class at our library; and 11 persons attended the training.
From November 10 to 12, the Training Center held the AV Material Description Training Class at our library, and 10 persons attended the training.
From November 24 to 28, the Training Center held the Chinese Machine-Readable Content
Format Training class at our library, and 52 persons attended the training.
On November 30, the Training Center held the training of Digital Strategy of the Library of
Congress in the 21st Century at our library, and 38 persons attended the training.
On December 14, the Training Center held the training of Chinese Library Cause Legislation and
Librarian Professional Ethics Construction at our library, and 28 persons attended the training.
From December 25 to 19, the Training Center held the Information Reference Theory and Practice at our library, and 36 persons attended the training.
III Exhibitions (8 times in total)
On February 21, the Thomas HerzogTechnology+ Architecture Exhibition, which was hosted by
GOETHE Institute PEKING, School of Architecture in Tsinghua University, Architectural Society of China and the Library Society of China, was held in Wenjin Hall of our library.
On March 3, our library held the Ancient Book History Exhibition in the Library Collected
Treasure Display Room.
On June 24, our library and the National Library of Singapore jointly held the Chinese Ancient
Book History Exhibition in Singapore.
On July 17, the Protection of State Treasures with Kind-heartedness, the Maintenance of Book
Spirit with Magic Hands II—Yongle Encyclopedia Recovery Achievement Exhibition was held in the Library Collected Treasure Display Room of our library.
On September 15, our library and the National Ancient Book Compilation and Planning Leading
Group Office jointly held the Exhibition of Ancient Book Compilation and Publication
Achievements after the Founding of China.
On September 30, the Exhibition of Rare Books with Block Printing and Other Treasures from the
Collection of the National Library of China was jointly held by our library and the National
Library of Hungary, was opened grandly at the National Library of Hungary in the Budapest
Palace.
On November 17, the National Library of China Library Collected Fine Model Calligraphy
Exhibition was held in the Library Collected Treasure Display Room of our library.
From December 5 to 15, the Exhibition of Berlin Architecture Lantern Slide after 1989, which was jointly held by the Library Society of China, the National Library of China and GOETHE Institute
PEKING, was opened at our library.

On January 4, Historic and Realistic Significance of A Song of Moral Sense by Wen Tianxiang, was lectured by Wen Huaisha, Chinese famous Chuci expert, professor of national level A.
On January 5, Well-off Society and the Problems of Agriculture, Cuntryside and Peasants, was lectured by Wu Xiang, researcher of Rural Development Research Center of the State Council.
