INVOCATION God of all, today we pray that we may receive your blessing because we are committed to be a real service organization to help humankind. May each of us, in our daily routine, come to know the joy of caring and sharing with others who are not as fortunate as we are. May our motto that includes serving, caring and sharing be for us life service not just lip service. Amen. PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN

I regret that I was not able to attend last Club Meeting and met our Japanese Rotarians from Yokohama, Japan. I was in my travel to Kobe, Japan to witness and show support to my Son as he was a choir member of the PAREF Springdale School Choir and their group was a participant in an International Choir Competition in Kobe, Japan for the first time. They garnered the Silver Award out of 19 participated countries.

Kobe is a city on Osaka Bay in central Japan. It is known for its signature marbled beef and scenic setting of mountains framing the harbor. The Ikuta Shrine, dating to the 3rd century, is among Japan's oldest Shinto shrines. Antique cable cars connect Kobe to Mt. Rokko, which offers panoramic views over the port. Beyond the Mount Rokko hills are the outdoor hot springs of Arima Onsen. PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN

Lastly, according to Samuel Johnson, “The use of traveling is to regulate imagination with reality, and instead of thinking of how things may be, see them as they are.”

Thank you for coming and that’s all for tonight. PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN

President’s Message – January 2020 Today in 1845, a decree of the Bishop confirms the establishment of Liloan, , as a parish. Also, today in 1946, President Sergio Osmeña, Sr., calls the Philippine Congress to its first session after World War II.

Welcome everyone to Cebu Port Centre Rotary Club! I would like to extend my admiration to those Rotarians who attended our last Monday Regular meeting. Though it was a day after the week-long festivities and I know everyone was quite tired from it - some Rotarians were indeed able to find time and joined our meeting. We were likewise fortunate to have our dynamic District Governor Philip Tan who personally met our Japanese Rotarian – Rotary Club of Yokohama Minami (District 2590). Through the efforts of PP Marcy Koike, our Rotarian Japanese guests visited Cebu and attended our meeting. A magnificent and sumptuous dinner was served and we expressed our gratitude to PP Marcy Koike for completing the Japanese menu for that night. Dōmo arigatōgozaimashita, PP Marcy!!!

Rotary Club of Yokohama Minami (District 2590) Last Tuesday, Rotary Club of Yokohama Minami (District 2590) dignitaries in the person of Mr. Toshinori Maki (President-Elect), Mr. Toru Mizutani (International Service Director), and Mr. Yuichirou Ito (Voluntary Social Service Director) paid a visit to Tejero Elementary School where they personally observed our Alternative Learning School, Dental Clinic, Water Drilling projects in the area. My appreciation to the following Rotarians who were with me in entertaining our guests: PP Marcy Koike (who brought the guests to Tejero area using his car), PP George Hong, and PAG Felix Asoy.

After Tejero Elementary School, PP Marcy and yours truly proceeded to Linao Elementary School, Talisay City, where our guests were warmly met by the School Principal. Our Japanese guests looked over the newly installed water drilling facility in the area. Before carrying on to the next place of visit, the School Principal presented RCCPC a Certificate of Recognition, an award to our Club for being an “Active Stakeholder” of DepEd, Talisay City Division.

From Linao Elementary School, we advanced to Naga Central Elementary School where our delegates were received by the School Principal and by Pres. Danny Antonio of Rotary Club of Cebu Naga Central (RCCNC). A welcome banner was prepared by RCCNC for the said visit. After exploring our water drilling projects in the school area, yours truly brought PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN our Japanese guests (together with PP Marcy and Pres. Danny Antonio) to a Restaurant owned by RCCNC Rotarian (Rey Malazarte), the “Hi-way Grill”, where they enjoyed the foods and superb lunch. Hi-way Grill Resto is also the regular meeting place of RC Cebu Naga Central. In the middle of our lunch, IPP Rodien Paca arrived and chatted well with our guests before they departed back for that day. Along these lines, I appreciated IPP Marcy Koike, Pres. Danny Antonio (of RCCNC) and IPP Rodien Paca for their presence.

District Conference 2020 Our District Conference (DisCon) 2020 is already fast-approaching. It will be held this coming March 5 – 7, 2020 (Thur to Sat) at Cebu Grand Convention Center, Banilad, Cebu City. Please let us all register while the cost is still low. Promo registration cost (with deadline until January 31, 2020 – Friday next week) is Php4,500.00 for Rotarian (Php3,000.00 for Spouse and Rotaractor). After January 31, cost is raised to regular rate at Php6,000.00. Club listing is at Php3,500.00 per club. You may extend your DisCon payment to our Club Treasurer, John Sulay, or to our Club Secretary, Jensen Racho, and our Club Clerk will be the one to deposit your money and register you online.

As already mentioned from our last Portside Bulletin issues, our Club is given the responsibility to host the Golf and Bowling tournaments on March 4, 2020 (a day before the actual DisCon day).

For the Golf Tournament (“Paul Harris Cup”), IPP Rodien already finalized the venue at Cebu Country Club and registration is set at Php4,000 per player (cost inclusive of shared cart, green fees, giveaways, dinner and raffles). There is a prize for Hole-In-One sponsored by Phil. Span Asia Carrier Corp.

For the Bowling Tournament (same day of Golf Tournament), since there are only two teams that compete each other – the and , each team will be composed of ten (10) players. Venue is set at Gaisano Bowlingplex at 6:00 PM. Tentative registration cost is Php1,000 per player. Winner is based on the total highest score for a team. So, this is a showdown between Visayas against Mindanao Rotarian bowlers. The Bowling Committee will give more updates soon on the prizes, guidelines and other mechanics of the tournament.

Meeting Make-Up Club members who are unable to attend regular Rotary meeting, please note of a ‘millennial’ way of having Make-up, which already tested by some of us - doing it online thru Rotary E-Club of the West –website address at: https://www.rotaryeclubwest.org/ make-up/. In doing “Make-Up” online, it is just as simple as browsing 30 minutes or more; 1.) view, read or watch some materials (the content of your choice provided by the e-Club website); 2.) complete & fill-out the “Make Up” Submission Form; and 3.) received an email confirmation within seconds which you can forward to our Club Secretary. By doing this, you can greatly help increasing our Club’s attendance percentage that will be reported monthly to our District.

A pleasant evening and God bless everyone!!! PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN PORTSIDE CLUB BULLETIN
