Samantha Armytage Axed from Hosting Or Attending the Australia for UNHCR Charity Event After Kristin Davis Sketch
Samantha Armytage axed from hosting or attending the Australia For UNHCR charity event after Kristin Davis sketch FEBRUARY 12, 20161:57PM Sam Armytage axed as host of UNHCR fundraiser Michael MorrowNews Corp Australia Network SAMANTHA Armytage has been uninvited from a charity event after yesterday’s Sex and the City skit on Sunrise with Kristin Davis backfired. The surprise decision was announced on the show this morning, after yesterday’s segment featuring the Sex and the City star drew widespread criticism from around the world and from the star herself. “I was asked to MC that event and conduct a Q and A with Kristin on stage and I immediately accepted,” Armytage said. “Since our interview yesterday, organisers have asked Sam not to host the event now or to attend it at all, that was unexpected,” Kochie added. “I always was, and I still am, very happy to host this fundraiser for such an important cause,” an upset Armatage concluded. The Sunrise hosts finished by saying they have the “utmost respect” for Kristen Davis and the Australia For UNHCR and wished them luck. “It was meant to be a bit of fun,” Kochie said. Kristin Davis took to Twitter to express her displeasure with the skit. Picture: TwitterSource:Twitter After an initial chat about Davis’s work with UNHCR, on yesterday’s show Kochie and Armytage proceeded to ask numerous questions about her TV series, which wrapped filming in 2004. The Hollywood star appeared clearly uncomfortable when they threw to a clip of her as Charlotte, her character on the show. -

Global Media Journal - Australian Edition - Media Monitor Vol 3:2 2009
Global Media Journal - Australian Edition - Media Monitor Vol 3:2 2009 Australian Media Monitor 2009 3:2 Tim Dwyer * GMJ Vol. 3, Issue Two * Australian Media Monitor In this edition of AMM, I highlight some of the key developments in media industries, policy and regulation in the final half of 2009. There have been important changes in several industry sectors, and often we are seeing that these moves on the media monopoly board will ripple out and interconnect with other corporations, directorships, policies, content and access issues for audiences. The sweeping proposals for change to separate Telstra Corporation’s wholesale and retail businesses that emerged in the second half of the year, are a case in point. The potential consequences of this particular law and its related policy and regulatory frameworks intersect most vividly with content and access issues in the potential sale of Foxtel, arising from the Telstra restructuring. Not only are there major ramifications for the rollout of the Rudd Government’s National Broadband Network (NBN), there are crucial flow-on issues for major media corporations such as the Seven Network and Consolidated Media Holdings, for advertisers, for internet service providers (ISPs), content creators, channel packagers and for regulators. And there are implications for the sale of the legacy free-to-air television spectrum in the ‘digital dividend’ as analog television is switched over to digital, and as the shakeout between traditional and new media continues. * Mogul Wars The second half of the year started dramatically (with headlines like “Raid launched on Consolidated Media”, Sydney Morning Herald, Business Day, Steffens, 9 July 2009, “Stokes share grab puts Packer in tight squeeze”, Australian Financial Review, Shoebridge and White, 10 July 2009, and “Seven takes stake in Cons Media to 19.91 percent”, AAP, 16 July 2009) when the papers began reporting that Kerry Stokes’ Seven Network had lifted its stake in James Packer’s Consolidated Media Holdings (CMH) to the maximum level allowed before launching a takeover. -

Both sides are trying to defy recent form, but only Reading are seeking to defy history. As well as the four permanent transfers, January saw several players return to, and leave the club on loan. Language has received particular attention because of its centrality to overall human development and its particular importance to reading development [ 1 — 3 ]. Poskiparta, P. I do know what you're saying. Research by Hirsh-Pasek and Burchinal [ 82 ] affirms the relationship between sensitive and responsive adults and language and cognitive outcomes using the large longitudinal data set from the NICHD Study of Early Child Care. The following weekend Reading travelled north to face Newcastle United and secured their first away win of the season thanks to another late comeback. Gloucestershire Echo. The curriculum presents small-group instruction that prevents reading failure by providing: Explicit instruction in phonics, with an emphasis on fluency A carefully constructed scope and sequence which prevents possible confusions Systematic cueing of appropriate strategies to help children learn to apply new skills Suitable levels of scaffolding to promote independence On-going assessment so you can evaluate progress and make decisions about instructional needs Results from federally-funded research studies using the program materials confirm that, after participating in SRA Early Interventions in Reading for one year, over ninety-nine percent of students at risk of reading failure at the beginning of the academic year were no longer at risk of failing in reading. -
Stephen Harrington Thesis
PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE BEYOND JOURNALISM: INFOTAINMENT, SATIRE AND AUSTRALIAN TELEVISION STEPHEN HARRINGTON BCI(Media&Comm), BCI(Hons)(MediaSt) Submitted April, 2009 For the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Creative Industries Faculty Queensland University of Technology, Australia 1 2 STATEMENT OF ORIGINAL AUTHORSHIP The work contained in this thesis has not been previously submitted to meet requirements for an award at this or any other higher education institution. To the best of my knowledge and belief, the thesis contains no material previously published or written by another person, except where due reference is made. _____________________________________________ Stephen Matthew Harrington Date: 3 4 ABSTRACT This thesis examines the changing relationships between television, politics, audiences and the public sphere. Premised on the notion that mediated politics is now understood “in new ways by new voices” (Jones, 2005: 4), and appropriating what McNair (2003) calls a “chaos theory” of journalism sociology, this thesis explores how two different contemporary Australian political television programs (Sunrise and The Chaser’s War on Everything) are viewed, understood, and used by audiences. In analysing these programs from textual, industry and audience perspectives, this thesis argues that journalism has been largely thought about in overly simplistic binary terms which have failed to reflect the reality of audiences’ news consumption patterns. The findings of this thesis suggest that both ‘soft’ infotainment (Sunrise) and ‘frivolous’ satire (The Chaser’s War on Everything) are used by audiences in intricate ways as sources of political information, and thus these TV programs (and those like them) should be seen as legitimate and valuable forms of public knowledge production. -
