Davis’ Broncs have made the four-team MAAC playoffs three straight years and are picked to win the MAAC in 2011. Davis was named the Rider head coach in July of 2004. In his first year he led Rider to a 21-win season, in- cluding a 14-13 record in the MAAC. Last year Davis was named the New Jersey College Baseball Association Division I Coach of the Year. Barry Davis In 2008 his team defeated the top seed, Canisius, and beat the third seed, Siena, two out of three games to win the MAAC tournament, held at Mercer County’s Waterfront Park, and advance to the NCAA Tournament in Fullerton, California. Jaime Steward of Blackwood, a former pitcher in the Anaheim Angels organization, begins his third sea- son as an assistant coach at Rider. “Jaime was an excellent addition to our staff,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis. “He has been successful at every level and has pitched for championship teams at the high school and college level.” “I am very excited to be a part of the Rider Baseball Program,” said Steward. “Coach Davis is a proven winner and I am constantly learning from him.” Steward is a 1997 graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School and a 2001 graduate of Le Moyne College. At Le Moyne Steward graduated as the career leader in strikeouts and innings pitched, and was drafted in the 39th round by the Angels. “As a former player in the MAAC, this is familiar territory for me,” Steward said. Jaime Steward The 2001 Le Moyne Athlete of the Year, Steward was the MAAC Pitcher of the Year in 1999, after earning MAAC Rookie of the Year honors in 1998. At Gloucester Catholic Steward earned All-State and honorable mention All-America honors as a senior, leading his team to a national ranking of fifth. “I have high expectations for our pitching staff as we work toward regaining the MAAC Championship,” Steward said. After two years in the Angels’ organization Steward pitched for the Camden River Sharks and the Atlantic City Surf, and was selected as the starting pitcher in the 2005 Atlantic League South Division All-Star game. “That experience brings instant credibility to our pitching pro- gram,” Davis said. “I am looking forward to working with him this year.”

Tim Reilly begins his first season as an assistant coach at Rider. A recent graduate of , Reilly served as an assistant coach under Fred Hill. “We are excited to have Tim on board with us,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis, who led the Broncs to their second NCAA Tournament in the last three years in 2010. “He brings energy to our program. His desire and work ethic are evident.” Reilly has worked at the Second To None Baseball Academy in Margate as a skills/conditioning coach under Johnny Monell. A summer ball head coach for Holy Spirit High School, Reilly played four years on the Rutgers varsity baseball team and was named to the Big East All-Academic team. Tim Reilly “Tim will work with the and will be our third base coach,” said Davis, who Ray Scipione won a Rider-record 36 games last season.

Scipione comes to Rider from Delsea Regional High School, where he served as head coach the last three seasons and won the Tri-County Cham- pionship in 2007. He also coached at St. Joseph High School, where his squad won the C.A.L. Division 2 Championship in 2003, 2005 and 2006. “Ray will bring seven years of high school head coaching experience to our program,” Davis said. In those seven years Scipione compiled a 93- 57 record, was the Atlantic City Press Coach of the Year in 2005 and also serves as head coach of the Tri-Cape Carpenter Cup team. “It’s been a goal of mine to coach at the Division 1 level and I can’t wait to get started,” Scipione said. “Coach Davis is one of the best in the country, and I know Rider has the type of program that can compete for a MAAC title and a Regional berth year-in and year-out. It’s my job to help make sure that happens.” Scipione was a three-time All-Conference at and helped the Bergen Beach Future Prospects team (Brooklyn, NY) win the National Championship. At Camden County College Scipione led the Mid-East Region with a .480 batting average in 1992 and went on to Elon University, where he batted .340. “Ray will work directly with our hitters and coach the ,” Davis said. “His success as a player and coach should translate into a solid foundation for our hitters.”

He was a great hitter in high school. This is his opportunity this year.” Behind the plate will be sophomore Mike O’Reilly and freshman Ken Kremer. O’Reilly played in 32 games as a rookie, starting 20. “O’Reilly caught in some big games last year,” Davis said. “He’s pretty solid defensively. He’s improving his throwing and he gets on base a lot.” Kremer is an athletic freshman who can catch and play middle in- field. “Kremer is still learning the position,” Davis said. “He’s very athletic with a good arm and can play second or third for us if we needed him to. He’s pretty athletic. He’s an infielder by trade, but this year he needs to be ready to catch.” Kremer is the son of two-time All-American Ken Kremer, who played for Rider in the mid-1980s before turning pro and is a member of the Rider Athletics Hall of Fame. Junior Chris Pierfy, who owns a .500 career batting average, will be the third catcher again this year. “Pierfy will again be our third catcher,” Davis said. “He has worked hard.” Other key returnees include junior Ryan Murphy, who is a veteran of 47 games, including seven starts, and has been used primarily as a pinch hitter. “Murphy will pinch hit, DH and will back up Heyne at first,” Davis said. The key newcomers, in addition to Kremer and Kennett, should be freshmen Nick Crescenzo, Steve Stopper and Jerry Mulderig. Crescenzo was an All-Conference outfielder and football quarter- back in high school. “Crescenzo will see action this year in the out- field,” Davis said. “He is the fastest guy on the team and he’s going to push for playing time. He’s very athletic. He played infield in high school but he’ll be in the outfield here.” “Stopper can play all three outfield positions,” Davis said. “He is coming off an injury in the fall but will add quality depth to our out- field.” Mulderig was a second baseman/pitcher in high school. “Mul- derig will see action in both infield and outfield,” Davis said. “He gives us some left-handed power. He’s athletic and versatile.” The season starts in Johnson City, Tennessee February 25 and ends
