Distances from Home Plate Left field ........................................................... 330 feet Center field ....................................................... 405 feet Right field ........................................................ 330 feet Height of outfield fence ..................................... 6 feet Capacity ............................................................ 2,000 Page 3 HEAD COACH BARRY DAVIS Rider University Baseball Media Guide • 2009 In just his fourth season at Rider University Barry Davis led the Broncs to the 2008 NCAA Tournament as cham - pion of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Barry Davis was named the Rider head coach in July of 2004. In his first year he led Rider to a 21-win season, including a 14-13 record in the MAAC. In his second season, he was named the co-winner of the MAAC Baseball Coach of the Year award, leading the Broncs to a playoff berth and a third place finish in the MAAC. In 2008 his team defeated the top seed, Canisius, and beat the third seed, Siena, two out of three games to win the MAAC tournament, held at Mercer County’s Waterfront Park, and advance to the NCAA Tournament in Fuller - ton, California. Prior to coming to Rider Davis was the head coach at Georgia Southwestern State University from 2001-2004. The four-time NJCAA Division III National Coach of the Year at Gloucester County College, Davis has compiled Barry Davis 666 victories in his head coaching career with just 284 losses, including 95 wins at Rider and an 11-year stint at Gloucester CC where he won four National Junior College titles and eight Regional Championships. Davis was 137-87 at Georgia Southwestern, winning the 2002 conference regular season and finishing with a National NAIA Ranking of fifth, earning Georgia Dugout Club NAIA Coach of the Year honors. Davis has sent 17 of his players on to the professional ranks, including Scott Knazek of the 2006 Rider squad. Davis also coached the National Junior College Athletic Association all-star team in 1999 which defeated Team Canada. A 1987 graduate of Bridgewater (VA) College, Davis has assisted at George Mason and Frostburg State. Davis was an All-Conference and All- State shortstop at Bridgewater, earning team MVP honors as a junior. Davis is Rider's eighth baseball coach and just the third since 1960. He resides in Morrisville, PA with his wife, Rhonda and daughter, Amanda. His son, Derek attends Bridgewater College in Virginia. At Le Moyne Steward graduated as the career leader in strikeouts and innings pitched, and was drafted in the 39th round by the Angels. “As a former player in the MAAC, this is familiar territory for me,” Steward said. Jaime Steward The 2001 Le Moyne Athlete of the Year, Steward was the MAAC Pitcher of the Year in 1999, after earning MAAC Rookie of the Year honors in 1998. At Gloucester Catholic Steward earned All-State and honorable mention All-America honors as a senior, leading his team to a national ranking of fifth. “I have high expectations for our pitching staff as we work toward defending our MAAC Championship,” Steward said. After two years in the Angels’ organization Steward pitched for the Camden River Sharks and the Atlantic City Surf, and was selected as the starting pitcher in the 2005 Atlantic League South Division All-Star game. “That experience brings instant credibility to our pitching pro - gram,” Davis said. “I am looking forward to working with him this year.” Jim Maher was named a volunteer assistant coach in October 2006. “As the final component to the staff, Jim gives us head coaching experience with the ability to coach all phases of the game,” said head coach Barry Davis.
