Abstract To establish a new method for quality evaluation of flue-cured tobacco, aroma components in thirteen flue-cured tobacco samples were identified and determined by the simultaneous distillation extraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SDE-GC-MS), and an evaluation model of aroma quality was established based on principal component analysis. Results indicated that the highest integrated score occurred in the sample T10, followed by T13, T1, T8, T12, T5, T3, T4, T9, T7, T11, T2 and T6, which were grossly consistent with the results of the traditional sensory smoking evaluation. Therefore, this model established in our study was feasible. Compared with the appearance, sensory, and traditional chemical components quality evaluation methods, our evaluation model based on aroma quality and principal component analysis can reflect the aroma quality of flue-cured tobacco more objectively, directly and accurately, and clear the position of flue-cured tobacco leaves in the cigarette blend.

    FORKTAIL 24 (2008): 80–91 A survey of the birds of the Dabie Shan range, central China YANG LIU, ZHENG-WANG ZHANG, JIAN-QIANG LI, YU ZHANG, SHAN LU and XIANG-FENG RUAN The Dabie Shan (Dabie Mountains) range, straddling Henan, Hubei and Anhui provinces in central China, harbours a rich bird diversity, representing a transition between Palaearctic and Oriental realms. Although historical information is available on the avifauna of this region, no recent comprehensive bird survey has been carried out. In this paper we present a bird inventory study for the Dabie Shan range based on ornithological surveys conducted between 2004 and 2006. We recorded 238 bird species during these surveys. Species of conservation significance include Falcated Duck Anas falcata, Reeves’s Pheasant Syrmaticus reevesii, Baer’s Pochard Aythya baeri, Fairy Pitta Pitta nympha, and Brown-chested Jungle Flycatcher Rhinomyias brunneata. Ten species are new records for the Dabie Shan range. This region is notable as a transition zone, in that most winter visitors and migrants are Palaearctic and a large proportion of summer breeders are Oriental species. It is also the northernmost part of the range of a number of subtropical breeders in China. The avifauna is threatened by extensive habitat loss outside the protected areas of the range, and we discuss conservation recommendations for the whole region. Facing the new situation and task of thoroughly reforming and duty transformation, as well as the opportunities and challenges brought by the revised Trademark Law, Trademark staff in AICs at all levels followed the arrangement of SAIC and got new achievements by carrying out trademark strategy and taking innovation on trademark practice, theory and mechanism. ——Trademark examination and review achieved great progress. In 2013, trademark applications increased to 1.8815 million, with a year-on-year growth of 14.15%, reaching a new record in the history and keeping the highest a mount of the world for consecutive 12 years. Under the pressure of trademark examination, Trademark Office and TRAB of SAIC faced the difficuties positively, and made great efforts on soloving problems. Trademark Office and TRAB of SAIC optimized the examination procedure, properly allocated examiners, implemented the mechanism of performance incentive, and carried out the “double-points” management. As a result, the Office examined 1.4246 million trademark applications, 16.09% more than last year. The examination period was maintained within 10 months, and opposition period was shortened to 12 months, which laid a firm foundation for performing the statutory time limit. —— Implementing trademark strategy with a shift to effective use and protection of trademark by law.
