Provisioner Bona Fide Pure Arizona, Arizona White Table Wine 2014, 57% Colombard, 30% Chenin Blanc, 13% Malvasia 13.3% Alc • The Provisioner White is fresh, crisp and fruity with perfect amount of body. It’s wonderful as an accompaniment to a light lunch, with serious dinner foods and, of course, all by itself. • In early frontier days the small-town general store was the social hub and lifeline for the hardy pioneers that settled the American Southwest. These stores, or provisioners, sold everything from nails to flour, blankets to whiskey. Arizona, despite efforts to tame her, is still a wild place with many secrets lying just below the surface. The most recent discovery is the propensity for the vine to thrive here and to yield a fine nectar that is indisputably Southwestern. Provisioner wines capture and share the soul of this place, and they do so in the spirit of the old-time general store: they support new exploration, they push us into new territory and make this quest we are on a little more honest and enjoyable. And all of this without breaking the bank. Drink well. These are wines for the people! • Fort Bowie Vineyard, Cochise County, Arizona • Fort Bowie Vineyards is the second oldest vineyard in the state. Planted in 1984, the massive French Colombard vines on the site are a big as a foot in trunk diameter. Additionally, the deep, loamy soils and warm summers (the warmest of our vineyards) lend to fruit driven wines that are approachable and young. • At an elevation of 3750 feet, Fort Bowie has two distinct vineyards, the Shop block and Lacey’s block.

  • Anderson Valley History
Anderson Valley History Anderson Valley, located in Mendocino County approximately 100 miles north of San Francisco, is blessed with an exceptional and unique viticultural climate. The combination of warm, sunny days and cool, foggy nights allows the grapes from this region to develop to the height of their varietal character. While Anderson Valley is ideally suited for cool season varietals, the existence of a series of unique meso-climates surrounding the valley allows for a diversity of conditions for grape growing. Beginning in the mid 1800s and continuing to the present day, Anderson Valley's wine industry has enjoyed a quiet, gradual evolution. Originating with the small plantings of European immigrants, it has today become an appellation of its own, producing wines of distinctive character. Viticulture and winemaking in Anderson Valley began with the Swiss and Italian settlers who planted vineyards with cuttings from their homelands. Although the fruit from these vineyards was mostly for home consumption, the fermented products found their way to the logging camps in the Valley and along the coast and a fledgling wine industry emerged. In the 1890s, Italian immigrants settled the Greenwood Ridge area, developing small vineyards and wineries on their homesteads. Accessible by a logging railroad, woodsmen and millworkers would ride the train up the ridge and spend the weekend buying and drinking wine from the ridge-top wineries. With the onset of Prohibition, wineries were raided and equipment destroyed by federal agents. Many of the small vineyards fell into decline and were never revived when Prohibition was repealed. In the 1940s, Anderson Valley became the focus of an unsuccessful attempt by Italian Swiss Colony to produce table wines.

  • 2015 BARREL-FERMENTED COLOMBARD Old Vines Russian River Valley
! 2015 BARREL-FERMENTED COLOMBARD Old Vines Russian River Valley Story: Colombard is a variety originally from the South-West of France where it has been grown for hundreds of years. Yannick made his first Colombard in 1996 in the heart of Gascony. The grapes for our wine come from one of two or three remaining Colombard vineyards in the Russian River Valley. Tasting note: 2015 was such a dry and warm year that Yannick picked Colombard grapes in September - three weeks earlier than normal. The wine was a little richer and fuller than in previous vintages, and so it presented a great opportunity to experiment with barrel fermentation and aging. While not imparting any oak flavors, barrel fermentation has added nice texture and creaminess to the crispy, mineral Colombard, making it a great dinner wine. Enjoy it with scallops, fish in a lemon cream sauce, or roast chicken. Be sure to sniff the glass first - we think you’ll like its aromas of lemon pie, quince, and pineapple. 44 cases made, sold exclusively at the winery AVA: Russian River Valley Vineyard: 44-year-old, dry-farmed vines Winemaking: Alcohol: 12.5% pH: 3.35 91 | From decades-old, dry-farmed vines, the wine then 100% barrel fermented, this vintage the grapes were picked particularly early and were still quite rich and full, prompting this experimentation. Lemony bright, floral aromas and flavors meet a lean, refreshing body of apricot and green apple, a pleasant experience from start to finish. Likewise, Spain is incredibly rich in culture, with a wide array of languages, histories, cultures, and cuisines found throughout the nation. The sheer number and variety of Spanish wines and the incredible variety of cultures found in Spain may be daunting to the uninitiated. Thus, a guide to Spanish wine and culture, which not only details the two but links them, as well, may prove very helpful to the Spanish wine newcomer or perhaps even a sommelier. This thesis-guide was compiled through the research of the various Denominaciones de Origen of Spain, the history of Spain, the regions of Spain and their individual histories and cultures, and, of course, the many, many wines of Spain.
