2021 Campaign for the Arts
With the new year quickly approaching, Allied Arts is gearing up for the 2021 campaign for the arts. As we also embark on the Allied Arts 50th anniversary in 2021, your continued support is more important than ever as COVID-19 continues to have a devastating impact on our art nonprofits. Between April and the end of July alone, Oklahoma creative industries lost more than $606 million and 19,500 jobs according to a recent study released by the Brookings Institution. Additionally, our community has lost two cultural nonprofits due to the effects of COVID-19. Your support can help ensure that we do not lose any more organizations that are making a difference. the Allied Arts entertainment discount card, and a 7-inch steel sculpture created by Allied Arts artist of the year, Joe Slack. You can read more about Slack on page 2 of this e-newsletter. Companies that commit to hosting an employee giving campaign before January 20 will receive special recognition as Headliners. To join them and the more than 100 companies that annually engage their employees in the arts, email

In this challenging year, your generosity and commitment to the arts have been critical in enabling the Allied Arts network to meet pandemic-related challenges head-on and to continue providing enlightening, educational and inspiring programming. Their ability to pivot quickly has been incredible - from new digital youth-oriented web episodes to socially-distanced, outdoor performances.
If you would like to make a personal or corporate donation before the end of the year, donate securely online at AlliedArtsOKC.com, or call the Allied Arts office at (405) 278-8944. Thank you!
In addition to corporate giving, local businesses can partner with Allied Arts by hosting employee giving campaigns in 2021. Employee giving donors who contribute $150 or more receive the OKCityCard,

2021 Step-Up Artist Spotlight: Joe Slack
Oklahoma native artist Joe Slack is inspired by primitive art and mid-century modern design. He works with simplified forms and repetitive patterns influenced by human observation and the effects of positive and negative space. Slack encourages viewers to find their own meaning when it comes to his art.
Slack is the Allied Arts featured artist for 2021. Donors who contribute $150 or more through their company’s employee giving campaign can opt to receive the StepUp Artwork, a seven-inch steel sculpture handcrafted by Slack entitled “Direction.”
Slack attended art school at Oklahoma City University and began his sculpting career working with wood, a material he’d been drawn to since he was a kid building skateboard ramps in his backyard. Once he discovered the magnitude and the permanence of steel, he shifted his vision.
“I want people to walk away with their own perspective on the work,” explains Slack. “Once you create it and put it out there, you can’t control what people think. I want them to see their version of my piece. And I hope people walk away a little happier than before they saw it.”
“I like that with steel you can work on a monumental scale,”
says Slack. “I like seeing people walk up to a piece and look up.”
Slack currently has 11 permanently placed pieces, plus four major installations each with eight to 10 sculptures on site. Slack works in a range of sizes from four-inch “micromini” pieces to pieces that stand up to 20 feet high or span 660 feet.
2020 has been a whirlwind for every sector, and artists are no exception. Slack says that his clients have been supportive through the unfamiliar circumstances.

Co-chaired by Cooper Tate and Steven Sylke, ARTini 2021’s theme will be GOLDtini, celebrating the Allied Arts 50th golden anniversary. Scheduled for later in 2021 at the OKC Farmers Market, ARTini will feature custom, hand-crafted martinis from the metro’s best known restaurants and lounges as well as a diverse collection of artwork by Oklahoma-affiliated artists for auction. Leaving a Legacy for the Arts
With your support, Allied Arts raised $45,803 in support of our endowment and to further our ability to support central Oklahoma’s cultural community at sustained levels. As part of a matching challenge program, the Kirkpatrick Family Fund will contribute $12,000 toward our affiliated fund at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
Thank you to everyone who donated and helped Allied Arts surpass our goal!
