Do not provide information you would not want to be publicly available. 1 ABSTRACT 2 There is a movement to introduce risk-informed and performance-based (RI/PB) analyses into 3 fire-protection engineering practice, both domestically and worldwide. This movement exists in 4 both the general fire-protection and the nuclear power-plant (NPP) fire-protection communities. 5 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has used risk-informed insights as part of its 6 regulatory decisionmaking since the 1990s. 7 In 2001, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) issued the 2001 Edition of NFPA 805, 8 “Performance-Based Standard for Fire Protection for Light-Water Reactor Electric Generating 9 Plants.” In July 2004, the NRC amended its fire-protection requirements in Section 50.48, “Fire 10 Protection,” of Title 10, “Energy,” of the Code of Federal
