    Der sagenumwobene Mummelsee/Hornisgrinde (= Horn des Grindel) – Der wahre, natürliche Ursprung der Acher -- von Dieter ORTLAM, (Bremen; Stand: 09/2021) aus: „Der Himmel über der Ortenau“ P. Martens (Hrg. Kulturverlag Art + Weise, Schliengen 2020) Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg erfolgte die Besetzung der Hornisgrinde (1164m NN) und des Mummelsees (1030m NN) durch die damalige französische Besatzungsmacht mit Sitz in Baden-Baden. Als begeisterte Wanderer und Skifahrer versuchten wir, als Jugendliche immer näher diese Sperrgebiete zu erkunden, was leider oft nur marginal gelang, da das streng Gebiet bewacht wurde und mit einem 2,5m hohen Maschendrahtzaun umgeben war. Dieser wurde allerdings abschnittsweise im strengen und schneereichen Winter 1952/53 von der Eis- und Schneelast niedergerissen, so dass dadurch ein Eindringen zur Hornisgrinde (bei schlechter Nebelsicht) ermöglicht wurde. Diese Gelegenheit gab es jedoch am tiefer liegenden Kar des Mummelsees nicht, der im Abflussbereich neben dem ehemaligen Mummelsee-Hotel bereits mit Schutt für Park- und Lagerhallen zugefüllt wurde, was damals großen Unmut in der Bevölkerung hervorrief. Dank der guten Öffentlichkeitswirkung des Südwestfunks (Baden-Baden) konnte schließlich noch vor der Wieder-Öffnung des Mummelsees Ende der 50er Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts eine Wiederherstellung der ursprünglichen Seefläche erreicht werden. Dadurch war es für uns Jugendliche wieder möglich, den Mummelsee als Badesee im Sommer ausgiebig zu nutzen, wobei uns die vielen Bergmolche (Triturus alpestris) und seltenen Wasserpflanzen (die Seerosen waren jedoch damals bereits verschwunden) schnell auffielen, zumal erstere bereits 1678 im großen Werk „Mundus Subterraneus“ von Athanasius KIRCHER S. J. (Geisa/Rom) als „Drachen“ abgebildet und beschrieben wurden. Mit seinem Freund Georgius LORETUS (Florenz) diente als ortskundiger Tour-Guide zum Mummelsee über das Achertal am 12.
