Il CEO di Apple parte dai successi, sottolineando i più recenti: ben 5 milioni di iPhone 5 nel primo fine settimana di vendite e 3 milioni di iPod, 200 milioni di dispositivi iOS 6, 300 miliardi di messaggi spediti con iMassage (di cui 28.000 messaggi al secondo), 70 milioni di foto con Photo Stream, 160 milioni di profili su Game Center, 700 mila applicazioni in App Store (di cui 275 mila per iPad) e 35 miliardi scaricate, 1.5 milioni di ebook su iBookstore (400 milioni scaricati). I nuovi notebook Apple sono più sottili del 20% rispetto ai Macbook classici con un peso di 1.58Kg, possiedono porte tre USB 3.0, HDMI, connettore Lightning, un lettore lettore per schede SD tra le soluzioni per la connettività. La vera innovazione è però il display, Retina appunto, con una risoluzione di 2560 × 1600 pixel (con un PPI superiore a quello dei modelli da 15 pollici) e software ottimizzati per l'alta risoluzione dello schermo. Gli altoparlanti sono posizionati sui fianchi del notebook (a differenza del Macbook da 15 pollici che integra gli speaker sul piano tastiera), mentre l'autonomai raggiunge le 7 ore di lavoro continuate. Il nuovo MacBook Pro 13 Retina è già disponibile da oggi con un prezzo di partenza di 1699 dollari, per il modello con 8GB di memoria RAM e 128GB di storage su drive SSD) e 1999 dollari per il modello top di gamma. Anche il piccolo PC di Apple è disponibile da oggi con prezzo di partenza di 599 dollari (per la versione Core i5 dual core da 2.5GHz, 4GB di RAM e HDD da 500GB). La versione top di gamma Server costerà 999 dollari e sarà dotata di un processore Core i7 da 2.3GHz, 4GB di RAM e due hard disk da 1TB. iMac L'evoluzione continua anche per la gamma di iMac, che in quest'ultima generazione cambia design, più sottile con 5mm di spessore e più leggero dei predecessori. Un simile risultato è stato possibile grazie all'eliminazione dell'unità ottica e all'introduzione di una nuova tecnologia dello schermo, con risoluzione pari a 2560 × 1440 pixel per il modello da 27 pollici e Full HD per la versione da 21 pollici. Sotto la scocca sono integrati due microfoni, dual speaker e camera FaceTime HD, processori Invy Bridge (Core i5 e i7), 4 porte USB 3.0 e due Thunderbolt, nonchè una soluzione di storage ibrido (HDD+SSD), chiamata da Apple Fusion Drive. Per questa ragione Apple aggiorna iBooks Author e lancia il nuovo iBooks 3.0, per visualizzare libri scolastici anche in modalità portrait, widget multitouch e libri aggiornabili.
