2009 Southland Conference Standings SUGAR BEARS LOOK TO REPEAT SUCCESS East Division The University of Central Arkansas volleyball team, entering their fourth year of NCAA School SLC Overall Division I and Southland Conference competition, will build upon last year’s success, Central Arkansas 16-0 27-3 where they finished first in the SLC East Division. Smith holds the UCA career mark with Sam Houston State 12-4 20-14 11.63 assists per set and 4,014 assists. She is also a two-time SLC All-Academic selection. Lamar 9-7 15-14 Backing Smith up is redshirt freshman Lauren Dear (5-8, Conway, Ark.) who gained UT Arlington 8-8 12-17 experience running UCA’s scout team last season. UTSA 7-9 12-19 Middle Blocker/Right Side A&M-Corpus Christi 2-14 9-22 Last year’s Southland Conference Player of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year Chloe Smith (6-3, San Diego, Calif.) is hoping to repeat last year’s success as a junior. The right side hitter recorded a .323 hitting CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Poll percentage, ranking fifth in the league. She was also third in the SLC with 3.35 kills per set and second with December 22, 2009 0.43 aces. Smith was invited to try out for the U.S. National Team in February. The Sugar Bears will have to overcome inexperience at middle blocker, with the loss of Emily Gordon and Natalie Lundquist to graduation.
