CFN Exclusive Interview with “Dictator Pope” Author Henry Sire Last year, anno Domini 2017, was truly historic in many ways. Although it did not meet the expectations of some in regard to apocalyptic signs, the Fatima Centenary featured a host of significant happenings in the Church and the world, in general. Dubbed “a year of disaster” by CNBC, 2017 witnessed a variety of devastating natural disasters across the globe: flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes, mudslides, and wildfires, to name a few. For the Church, it could appropriately be styled the “year of resistance” – that is, of resisting Pope Francis “to the face” (Gal. 2:11). The first notable example that comes to mind is the publication of George Neumayr’s The Political Pope (May 2017), a penetrating exposé of Jorge Mario Bergoglio based largely on direct quotes from the man himself, as noted in my review of the book. A few months later (Sept. 24, 2017), the famous Correctio filialis (“filial correction”) was made public, a respectful but firm indictment “on account of the propagation of heresies effected by the apostolic exhortation Amoris laetitia and by other words, deeds and omissions” of Pope Francis. This was followed, in turn, by a similar initiative (Dec. 12, 2017): “Pledge of Fidelity: Faithful to True Doctrine, Not to Erring Pastors”. Perhaps the most intriguing manifestation of resistance, however, appeared in between the Correctio filialis and Pledge of Fidelity in the form of an e-book entitled The Dictator Pope (Nov. 2017). The mysterious author, writing under the pen name “Marcantonio Colonna” (after the famous Italian admiral who led the papal fleet in the Battle of Lepanto), revealed precious few personal details.

  • For Some Sixty Years, Commencing in 1260, the Mamluk State in Egypt and Syria Was at War with the Ilkhanid Mongols Based in Persia
For some sixty years, commencing in 1260, the Mamluk state in Egypt and Syria was at war with the Ilkhanid Mongols based in Persia. This is the first comprehensive study of the political and military aspects of the early years of the war, the twenty-one-year period commencing with the battle of cAyn Jalut in Palestine in 1260 and ending in 1281 at the battle of Horns in northern Syria. Between these major confrontations, which resulted from Mongol invasions into Syria, the Mamluk-Ilkhanid struggle was continued in the manner of a 'cold war' with both sides involved in border skirmishes, diplomatic maneuvers, psychological warfare, ideological posturing, espionage and other forms of subterfuge. Here, as in the major battles, the Mamluks usually maintained the upper hand, establishing themselves as the major Muslim power at the time. Using primarily contemporary Arabic and Persian sources, Reuven Amitai- Preiss sheds new light on the confrontation, examining the war within the context of Ilkhanid/Mamluk relations with the Byzantine Empire, the Latin West and the crusading states, as well as with other Mongol states. • Crisis in the Church: a Historical Perspective
Crisis in the Church: A Historical Perspective Address delivered by Professor Roberto de Mattei Una Voce Canada Annual General Meeting Holy Family Parish, Vancouver, British Columbia November 10, 2018 The Century of Revolutions The Church is the Mystical Body of Christ: a reality that transcends history, but in history lives and battles and hence is called the Church Militant. For this reason we cannot speak about the Church without reflecting on the historical horizon in which She operates. In 2017, we commemorated three Revolutions which changed [the course of] history: the Protestant Revolution, the French Revolution and the Communist Revolution. Three Revolutions that are part of a single revolutionary process.1 2018 is the anniversary of two events positioned inside the same revolutionary process: the hundred years since the end of the First World War and the fifty years since the Revolution of 1968. Two anniversaries that help us to place the crisis of the Church in its historical context. The First World War shook up the political geography of Europe. The disappearance of the Austrian Empire deprived the European continent of its centre of gravity, paving the way for the Second World War. But the postwar period of the early 20th century was principally a Revolution in the culture and mentality of European man. It was the end of an era. We ought to reread the memoirs of the Austrian writer Stefen Zweig (1881- 1942), Die Welt von Gestern (The world of yesterday). Zweig writes in this book: “If I try to come up with a convenient formula to describe the time preceding the First World War – the period I grew up in – I believe the most concise possible would be to say that it was the age of certainty.

And this partnership is working very successfully, with Catholic schools in Scotland now providing safe spaces for LGBT pupils. Of course, we’ve a way to go. I believe Catholic schools in England are now allowing gender neutral uniforms, with one pupil making “their” First Communion in a white trouser suit because that child now wishes to identify as a boy. I’ve not heard of any similar cases in Scotland but maybe Scottish Catholic schools will, er, follow suit, to so speak, soon, not to fall behind in the progressive, liberal stakes. CONSORTIUM NEWSLETTER (December 22, 2017) A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL! May God grant each and all of us a Christmas filled with grace, joy, faith, holiness, love, mercy, compassion, and understanding. Amen! 1 POPE FRANCIS (Continued) As we consider now what is happening in today’s Church by focusing on the Pope, there is more good literature that deals with this than I had previously thought. And there certainly are more angles to this question than I had thought previously. The following angle was quite unknown to me and it really threw me for a loop; you will see why shortly. I must say that I was tempted to skip the following comments because they present a situation I do not like and because they cause us to raise many questions we would prefer not to. I also had to think very hard why I was doing the project of sharing comments with you about where Francis is today and then skipping some comments I do not like. Overall, I decided to share these comments with you as they are because as a Catholic/Christian believer you have a right to hear them. It is up to you as an adult Catholic to decide what you will do with them and so here they are. Please say a little prayer to the Holy Spirit before you proceed much farther. Thank you! The two articles I am using here are one from The Catholic Thing and one from the Catholic Herald. (Robert Royal, “The Dictator Pope,” The Catholic Thing, December 6, 2017, at https://www.thecatholicthing.org) (Dan Hitchens, “‘The Dictator Pope’” a mixture of hearsay and insight,” Catholic Herald, December 12, 2017) A different and remarkable new book on the pope has just come out which is really causing waves.
