He studied clarinet at the Kazan Music School, Kazan Music College and the Kazan Conservatory. He was appointed as associate clarinetist of the Tatarstan's Opera and Ballet Theatre, and of the Kazan State Symphony Orchestra. He toured extensively in Europe, then went to Canada where he settled permanently in 1998. He completed his musical education at the University of Montreal where he studied with Andre Moisan. He works as a conductor and Klezmer clarinetist and has composed a sizeable body of music. She completed her junior and senior years at Dreyfoos School of the Arts, taking private lessons with Robert Davidovici. She began studying violin at age 7, and participated in several competitions and chamber groups in Romania and US. She participated in Masterclasses with musicians such as Viktor Tretiakov, Elisabeth Adkins, Sharon Leventhal, Stephanie Baer, Scott Flavin, Eli Matthews, and Ilian Garnet,to name a few. Her performance experience includes collaborations with Christopher O’Riley at Wintergreen Music Festival, Bergonzi Quartet and Sona Quartet as "Young Artist in Residence" at Mainly Mozart Music Festival, Miami USA, performance as a soloist with the Alhambra Orchestra, Miami, solo and chamber performances in festivals in Romania, such as Remember Enescu Festival, Mozart Festival, and Cluj- Napoca City Days.Tinca has been recipient of awards and top prizes, including the Alhambra Concerto Competition (3rd place); National Musical Competition in Romania (1st place in 2013, 2012, and 2009); Remember Enescu International Music Competition (honorable mention); Lira de Aur International Music Competition (1st place); Sigismund Toduta International Music Competition (1st place in 2012 and 2009); Young Talents National Music Competition in Romania (1st place); Paul Constantinescu National Interpretative Competition (3rd place); J.S. -

RUSSIAN, SOVIET & POST-SOVIET CONCERTOS A Discography of CDs and LPs Prepared by Michael Herman Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975) Born in St. Petersburg. He entered the Petrograd Conservatory at age 13 and studied piano with Leonid Nikolayev and composition with Maximilian Steinberg. His graduation piece, the Symphony No. 1, gave him immediate fame and from there he went on to become the greatest composer during the Soviet Era of Russian history despite serious problems with the political and cultural authorities. He also concertized as a pianist and taught at the Moscow Conservatory. He was a prolific composer whose compositions covered almost all genres from operas, ballets and film scores to works for solo instruments and voice. After earning his undergraduate degree at the M.A. Balakirev Music College in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, he studied at Indiana University and the Royal College of Music. In 2011, he won the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, and the next year he was awarded the prestigious Gawon International Music Society Award in Seoul, South Korea. Mr. Abrosimov has performed at piano festivals in Russia, Europe, and the United States, and his notable concerto appearances include the Stars of the White Nights festival in St. Petersburg, where he performed with the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev. He also has played recitals in New York (Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall), Seoul (Yongsan Art Hall), and St. Petersburg (Mariinsky Concert Hall), among others. Florea Vladimir, my grandmother’s father, played flute and saxophone. Both of my great-grandfathers on my mother’s side were musicians. Stefan Pocitari, my great-grandfather on my father’s side, played flute in the Moldovan State Philharmonic. Vasile Pocitari, my grandfather, was a violinist and a member of the Moldovan State Philharmonic. My parents, Lilia and Petru Vieru, worked in many folk orchestras including Orchestra Fluieras, Lăutari, and Folclore. I have other relatives including aunts, uncles and cousins who are professional musicians. Our family has been referred to as the Pocitari Dynasty because of both the depth of our roots in the region and the extension of our reach more recently around the world. My parents shared their love and knowledge of Moldovan music with me and made me realize how unique and beautiful our music is. They encouraged me from the youngest age to work hard to develop my skills, and they exposed me to professional classical and Moldovan folk music by allowing me to accompany them to rehearsals when I was not even five years old! I learned the names of the pieces and memorized the melodies; I was fascinated by the beautiful traditional costumes, the combination of dance and music, and the interesting rhythms. -

It is a memory and remembrance lesson of those who were and are Romanian rhapsodes of music. Key words: musicians, instrumentalists, instrumental music, Republic of Moldova, România „Atât suntem oameni, cât nu uităm” Nicolae Botgros Istoria işi scrie povestea cu noblețe şi profesionalizm. Moldovenii şi-au cântat bucuriile şi necazurile de-a lungul istoriei şi au găsit în muzica lăutărească una dintre puţinele alinări. Experienţa perceptivă acumulată de-a lungul anilor, marcată de efervescenţa cântecului popular, imaginea vie a lăutarilor, pitorescul şi farmecul fanfarelor şi tarafurilor din Moldova, constituie elementele definitorii în procesul formării concepţiilor estetice la poporul nostru. „Majoritatea lăutarilor din ţara noastră au fost de origine romă şi acest lucru nu miră pe nimeni. Țiganii erau singurii care erau chemaţi la chefuri pentru a le anima. Iar acest lucru îl făceau cel mai des folosind scripc,a, care a fost cel mai folosit instrument la petreceri. Nu exista petrecere fără lăutari, iar aceştia proveneau din rândul ţiganilor şi nu era nicio ruşine, era ceva normal. De-a lungul anilor, unii dintre aceşti interpreţi de muzică populară şi-au câştigat o reputaţie de neregalat, asemănătoare chiar cu cea a unor vedete ale teatrului de atunci şi nu numai.
