Neither sadly can we forget the wars and fighting in other parts of the world, with the distress caused by the thousands of people killed, maimed or made homeless. How is it that the extremists with political or religious ideology can ruin the lives of millions? The good news of the summer must be the fantastic results of our Olympic and Paralympic competitors in their respective Olympic games in Rio. Nearer to home as you will read elsewhere in this edition of Yapton News, your parish council has continued to oppose what we believe to be unsustainable major housing development applications. This past year 3 of our parish councillors have decided to stand down, I thank them for their work on the council, and welcome their replacements and hope they enjoy many successful years supporting the village. I would like to express sincere thanks to Jo and Alan Smithers who yet again in all weathers, are out and about each morning picking up the litter dropped on the playing field and the areas around it, and to the volunteers who ensure that Yapton News is delivered to every household in the village. It is also the time of year we traditionally think of others less fortunate than ourselves, the homeless, the needy, the sick, the lonely and the elderly. Let us also remember those who work tirelessly to bring comfort and support to those in need. All the members of Yapton Parish Council as well as Andrew Gardiner our Clerk join me in warmly sending Seasons Greetings not only to our Yapton residents but those of you around the world that enjoy reading Yapton News. Whatever your religious faith we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful year in 2017.
