NEWS RELEASE 2014/15 Team HEO Coaches Announced for 2015 OHL Gold Cup

ABOUT THE EVENT

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual event created to feature ’s top Under-16 talent. This event will not only showcase Ontario’s talent, but is an evaluation and selection process for Hockey Canada who takes part in the World under 17 Challenge. With 8 teams and 160 players representing HEO, Alliance, GTHL, HNO, NOHA, and the OMHA, the future of Canadian hockey will be on display during the 20 games of the OHL Gold Cup. This year’s event will take place May 7th to 10th, 2015 in Kitchener Ontario.

TEAM HEO

Jeff Baker (Team HEO Director of Operation’s) and Sean Howard (Team HEO General Manager) are pleased to announce the Selection of Vince Malette as Head Coach. Vince brings a wealth of experience to this Team. Most recently as Assistant Coach of the Eisbaren Berlin Professional Hockey club of the Pro Hockey Germany First Division League. Vince was also the Head Coach of the Peterborough Petes of the OHL from 2006-2008, and Assistant Coach of the Ottawa 67’s under Legendary Coach Brian Kilrea from 1998-2006 and won a in the 1999/2000 . Vince will be joined by Kenny Fleck as Assistant Coach. Kenny is currently an assistant coach with the Kemptville 73’s of the Central Canada Hockey League. Kenny was also an assistant coach with last year’s OHL Gold Cup Team. Also joining the staff this year will be Steve Malette. Steve is currently the Head Coach of the Eastern Ontario Wild Major Midget AAA team. Steve has coached over 200 games at the AAA level; and, led the Wild’s 1997 age group of players to an incredible combined regular season win-loss-tie record of 43-7-6 at the Minor & Major Bantam AAA seasons, earning Back-To-Back OEMHL-AAA League Championships; 2011/12 OEMHL-AAA Bantam Playoff Champions; and, Semi-Finalist at the 2012 All-Ontario Bantam AAA Championships. Brian Gillam will also be on the staff, Brian will be responsible for advanced scouting, and Video. Brian is currently an Assistant Coach with the Ottawa 67’s Major Bantam AAA team, and was an Assistant Coach with the 2013 OHL Gold Cup Champion and 2014 Teams.

Team HEO would also like to announce that Mario Dupuis (Head Trainer Ottawa 67’s of the OHL) and Michel Perron (Assistant Trainer Ottawa 67’s OHL) have been brought on board as Team Trainer’s and Equipment Manager.
