¶ Please note.

Mass during COVID-tide is necessarily different. Some elements of the Liturgy with which we are familiar have been suspended in the interests of simplifying the Liturgy to meet our circumstances, and shortening our time in the building.

● Please wear a mask while you are in the building. Hand sanitizer is available at the doors. ● At present, only one Mass is offered each Sunday, so that we do not have to clean the church between each service. Our goal is to add additional services in the fullness of time, and as circumstances allow. ● At the direction of the Bishop, the Holy Communion may not be distributed at this time. Thus, this and all Masses at the Advent are non-communicating, meaning that only the celebrant receives. In receiving Communion, the priest makes an intention to receive on behalf of everyone present. ● The singing of hymns is currently not permitted. ● Collection plates will not be passed. There will be a basket to receive your offering at the entrance and exits of the church. ● For the time being, there is no coffee hour. If you socialize on the sidewalks, please wear masks and maintain appropriate distancing.

In the event of our learning that someone at Mass today tests positive for COVID-19 in the next several days, we want to be able to inform you, so that in consultation with your physician, you can take the appropriate steps.

If you registered to come to Mass today, we already have your contact information, and will reach out to you if we learn that someone here has tested positive. If you have not registered, please do so by scanning this QR code and entering the information, or by giving your name and contact information to an Usher.

We will make any announcement of a positive test on the parish website as well (under the tab “COVID-19”), so please check the website on a regular basis. Note that this information will not include the name of the person who tested positive, which will be kept confidential, but only the Mass which they attended and any other relevant non-personal information.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SERVING AS AN USHER at the 9.30am Sunday Mass, please contact Ray Porter: [email protected] or 617.335.6199. No prior experience is necessary; training will be provided.

Officiant. 1. Now that the daylight fills the sky, Officiant. 3. Would keep our inmost We lift our hearts to God on high, conscience pure; That he, in all we do or say, Our souls from folly would secure; Would keep us free from harm to-day: Would bid us check the pride of sense With due and holy abstinence. People. 2. Would guard our hearts and tongues from strife; People. 4. So we, when this new day is gone, From anger’s din would hide our life; And night in turn is drawing on, From all ill sights would turn our eyes, With conscience by the world unstained Would close our ears from vanities: Shall praise his Name for victory gained.

All. 5. All laud to God the Father be; All praise, eternal Son, to thee; All glory, as is ever meet, To God the holy Paraclete. Amen.

¶ The people are seated. Psalm 119. VI. Et veniat super me.

LET thy loving mercy come also unto me, O LORD, * even thy salvation, according unto thy word. 42 So shall I make answer unto my blasphemers; * for my trust is in thy word. 43 O take not the word of thy truth utterly out of my mouth; * for my hope is in thy judgments. 44 So shall I alway keep thy law; * yea, for ever and ever. 45 And I will walk at liberty; * for I seek thy commandments. 46 I will speak of thy testimonies also, even before kings, * and will not be ashamed. 47 And my delight shall be in thy commandments, * which I have loved. 48 My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; * and my study shall be in thy statutes. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

-- 2 --

VII. Memor esto verbi tui.

O THINK upon thy servant, as concerning thy word, * wherein thou hast caused me to put my trust. 50 The same is my comfort in my trouble; * for thy word hath quickened me. 51 The proud have had me exceedingly in derision; * yet have I not shrinked from thy law. 52 For I remembered thine everlasting judgments, O LORD, * and received comfort. 53 I am horribly afraid, * for the ungodly that forsake thy law. 54 Thy statutes have been my songs, * in the house of my pilgrimage. 55 I have thought upon thy Name, O LORD, in the night season, * and have kept thy law. 56 This I had, * because I kept thy commandments. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

¶ Then shall follow the Lesson.

Benedictus. St. Luke 1. 68.

✠ BLESSED be the Lord God of Israel : for he hath visited, and redeemed his people; And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us: in the house of his servant David; As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets : which have been since the world began; That we should be saved from our enemies : and from the hand of all that hate us; To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers : and to remember his holy covenant; To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather Abraham that he would give us; That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies : might serve him without fear; In holiness and righteousness before him : all the days of our life. And thou, child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest : for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge of salvation unto his people : for the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God : whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us; To give light to them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death : and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son : and to the Holy Ghost As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be : world without end. Amen.

The Holy at 9:30am Mass of the Good Shepherd—Rodney Lister (born 1951) (world première)

Introit Deus in loco sancto Mode VII Ant. God in his holy habitation: it is he that maketh brethren to be of one mind in an house: he will give the dominion and preeminence unto his people. Psalm. Let God arise, and let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. . Repeat Ant.

Kyrie

Gloria

Collect O God, the protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us thy mercy, that, thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. ¶ The people are seated. Epistle Romans 8:26–34 The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, will he not also give us all things with him? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies; who is to condemn? Is it Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us?

Gradual In Deo speravit Mode V My heart hath trusted in God, and I am helped: therefore my heart danceth for joy, and in my song will I praise him. Unto thee will I cry O LORD: be not silent, O my God, nor depart from me.

¶ The people stand. Alleluia Exsultate Deo Mode VII Alleluia. R. Alleluia. V. Sing we merrily unto God our strength; make a cheerful noise unto the God of Jacob: Take the psalm, bring hither the tabret. R. Alleluia.

The Holy Gospel Matthew 13:31–33, 44–49a R. Glory be to thee, O Lord. Another parable Jesus put before the crowds saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened. The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net which was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind; when it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into vessels but threw away the bad. So it will be at the close of the age. R. Praise be to thee, O Christ.

Sermon ¶ Standing. Creed I BELIEVE in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible: And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made: Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man: And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried: And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures: And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father: And he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end. And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord, and Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who spake by the Prophets: And I believe one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church: I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins: And I look for the Resurrection of the dead: And the Life of the world to come. Amen.
