    Tranent Cluster Area Early Years Profile Introduction Over the last two years a group of service and community champions for Support from the Start have developed a wide range of initiatives and programmes aimed at improving health and social equality through a focus on children’s early years – pre birth to 8 years of age. This approach has evaluated positively (Healthy Happy Bairns) and a second phase for Support from the Start has been agreed by East Lothian community planning partners. A key part of the phase two approach is the development of local ‘champions’ or ‘link up’ groups in each of the school clusters. A fuller description of the proposed champions groups can be found here but in short they will bring together key people from the community and local services to focus on action to improve chances for children pre birth to 8. Tranent Cluster Area Overview Tranent is situated towards the west of East Lothian lying between Haddington and Musselburgh on the south side of the main A1 road. The history of Tranent is based around local farming and coal-mining as the town coat of arms reflects but in this 21st century its residents work in many different professions throughout East Lothian and in the capital Edinburgh.     Representation to East Lothian Council Local Development Plan, Main Issues Report CALA Management Ltd - In respect of land at Pinkie Mains Farm, Inveresk Question 11: Musselburgh Cluster The Site The site is known as Pinkie Mains Farm and is currently open agricultural farmland. It extends to some 4.4 ha and is located at the southern edge of Inveresk Village, bounded by Edenhall Hospital to the north, the East Coast Main Line (in cutting) to the south and east and by Crookston Road to the west. The extent of the site and an illustrative proposal is identified in the supporting Development Strategy Document, prepared by OPEN. This submission is also made against the background of a Transport Statement prepared by Transport Planning Ltd. Both documents are attached. Background This site was previously submitted to East Lothian Council as part of a significantly larger proposal, by Wallace Land at the call for sites stage of this emerging Local Development Plan (LDP). That proposal comprised some 14 hectares and identified a development capacity of 300 homes. That developer is not involved with the landowner at Pinkie Mains and the previous proposal is no longer relevant. The current site is promoted by CALA with the full backing of the landowner. It is considerably smaller at just 4.4 ha and with an indicative development capacity of 45 units over 2.6 ha. CALA Representation This representation proposes the inclusion of the subject site within the East Lothian Council LDP as a residential allocation. CALA proposes an indicative development capacity of 45 units, including the requirement to provide an allocation of affordable housing.

We spoke with staff and children present during the inspection. Feedback was provided to the head teacher. West Barns Primary School Nursery is registered to care for a maximum of 20 children per session aged between three years and those not yet attending primary school. The nursery is open during term time from 8.45am to 11.55am. The provider is East Lothian Council. The nursery is situated in an annexe within the grounds of West Barns Primary School in Dunbar. It has its own entrance hall, toilets and enclosed garden for the children to participate in more active play. The aims and objectives of the nursery include the following: To create a secure, calm and happy atmosphere. To provide a stimulating environment, new learning experiences and to cater for individual needs. To help each child to socialise with other children from all cultural backgrounds.
