Sept. 25 @ Manitoba W 26‐25 After losses in their previous two trips, however, the Dinos will be focused Oct. 2 UBC W 33‐16 on notching a victory and the school’s fifth Vanier Cup title as they face Oct. 15 @ Saskatchewan L 17‐36 the No. 1, undefeated, hometown Laval Rouge et Or in a battle for Oct. 22 @ Regina W 35‐27 Canadian university football supremacy. Oct. 30 Alberta W 37‐5 THE MATCH‐UP Nov. 6 CW Semi‐final vs. Regina W 40‐33 Nov. 13 74th Hardy Cup vs. Alberta W 56‐3 Calgary and Laval have met just once previously, in the 2008 Uteck Bowl at PEPS. The powerhouse Rouge et Or Nov. 20 Mitchell Bowl vs. Saint Mary’s W 35‐8 dominated a young Dinos squad, scoring an easy 59‐10 victory en route to their fifth Vanier Cup title. The Dinos and the Rouge et Or are the only two teams to have held top spot in the FRC‐CIS Top 10 poll in 2010. Calgary opened the season at No. 1 and, after a season‐opening loss to Saskatchewan, surrendered it to Laval – and the Rouge et Or have 2010 LAVAL SCHEDULE (9‐0, 12‐0) held it since, going a perfect 12‐0 and winning their record eighth straight Quebec conference championship. It is just Home games BOLD; playoff games in italics Sept. 5 McGill W 50‐9 the second time in school history that the Dinos will face a team based in the province of Quebec – both times, Laval. Sept. 11 @ Sherbrooke W 36‐6 THE DRIVE FOR REDEMPTION Sept. 18 @ Saint Mary’s W 45‐7 It certainly hasn’t been an easy road for the Dinos to get back to the Vanier Cup after giving up an 18‐point halftime Sept. 26 Sherbrooke W 23‐7 lead to Queen’s in 2009 before falling 33‐31 in heartbreaking fashion. But after winning their third straight Hardy Cup Oct. 3 Concordia W 46‐10 title and handling Saint Mary’s in the semi‐final for the second straight season, the Dinos are ready for another shot. Oct. 9 @ Montreal W 19‐12 It’s the first time in University of Calgary history that the Dinos have made Vanier Cup appearances in consecutive Oct. 17 Bishop’s W 62‐0 years – the previous best was two appearances in three years, which happened in both 1983/1985 and 1993/1995. Oct. 23 @ McGill W 68‐0 Oct. 30 @ Concordia W 62‐7 THE BOWL GAME OUT WEST Nov. 6 RSEQ Semi‐final vs. Bishop’s W 56‐1 The Calgary Dinos have made seven Vanier Cup appearances in their history, not including this year: 1975, 1983, 1985, Nov. 13 Dunsmore Cup vs. Sherbrooke W 22‐17 1988, 1993, 1995, and 2009. Calgary has a 4‐3 record in the national championship game. All three losses (1975, 1993, Nov. 20 Uteck Bowl vs. Western W 13‐11 and 2009) came in years where the Dinos had played the semi‐final Bowl game in the province of Nova Scotia The other four Vanier Cups, all victories, had a distinctly ‘Western’ feel to the lead‐up semi‐final. In 1983, the Dinos got a CANADA WEST STANDINGS bye to the Vanier as western champions; in 1985 and 1995, Calgary hosted the Bowl game at McMahon Stadium, then x‐clinched playoff spot; y‐first place went on to capture the national title. And in 1988, the Dinos defeated Western in London, Ont. in the Central Bowl. Calgary-Laval rematch headlines 52nd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup Nov 21, 2016 By Alexander Cole, U Sports Correspondent After 13 exciting weeks of U Sports football, the 52nd ArcelorMittal Dofasco Vanier Cup, which will be held on Nov. 26 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ont., will come down to a match between the Université de Laval Rouge et Or and the University of Calgary Dinos. The Rouge et Or, who will be appearing in their tenth Vanier Cup match since 1999, were a force to be reckoned with all season, finishing with a record of 7-1. The team was ranked first in the nation by the U Sports top 10, and placed second in the RSEQ conference, just behind their rivals, the Université de Montréal Carabins. Throughout their playoff run, Laval has demonstrated why they are one of the best teams in the nation. In the RSEQ semifinals, the Rouge et Or made quick work of the Concordia Stingers, with a 39-14 victory. The following week, the team narrowly edged the Carabins 20-17 in the Dunsmore Cup championship, thanks to a last minute trick play which saw quarterback Hugo Richard catch the game-winning touchdown. In their most recent contest on Saturday, the Rouge et Or blew out the Laurier Golden Hawks in the Uteck bowl. The Golden Hawks, who were coming off a thrilling comeback victory against the Western Mustangs in the Yates Cup, were no match for the No.1-ranked Rouge et Or, dismantling Laurier 36-6 with Richard passing for two touchdowns and rushing for one.
