Special thanks to Daryl Slade, former chief statistician PJFC for material from the Manitoba- Saskatchewan Junior football League covering the 1961-1971 seasons. Special thanks to Sue Hayter of St Andrews College, Jill Spellman of Upper Canada College, Wendy Darby of Ripley College and Viola Lyons of Trinity College School. These Archive Librarians have provided year book copies of their respective school and many lost records. Further research has found that the First Teams of the Little Big Four 1902-1920 were recognized by the CRU as junior teams. As such many individual and team records have been entered into the record book. Apoligies to George Dalton, Billy Hamilton and Knox Walkem, Kingston Granites II. A more detailed research confirms their combination touchdown run on Nov 7, 1896 originated from the 20 yard line and therfore recorded as a 90 yard run Apologies to Adrian Rathbun, Upper Canada College In his Oct 29, 1904 game he crossed the goal line seven time for a junior record. Apologies to Everett Smith of Ripley College. His 110 yard punt return for a touchdown on Oct 16, 1909 was a then junior record Apologies to Alexander Mackenzie of the Toronto Capital Rugby Club on November 29, 1910. His field goal of 40 yards from a drop kick was a then junior record. Apologies to James “Jimmy” Bricknell, St. Andrew College Saints. His 120 yard kickoff return on Oct 21, 1911 was a junior record. Apologies to Eimer Soot, St. Andrew’s College Saints. His 6 rushing touchdowns on Nov 7, 1914 was the second most in junior history. Apologies to Nigel Galbraith, St. Andrew’s College Saints. His 11 goals from trys (converts) on Nov 7, 1914 was a junior record. Apologies to Ewart Whitaker and Walter Cassell, St. Andrew’s College Saints. Their two fumble return touchdowns on Nov 7, 1914 equalled the junior record. Apologies to Thomas Halliday Lennard, Ripley College Tigers kicking a record 6 drop kicks (field goals) on Oct 21, 1916. It was the most by anyone at any level. Apologies to George Burnham, Montréal Westmount AAA Jrs. His 4 field goals on Nov 10, 1923 were the second most in Junior history Apologies to Ralph St. Germain, Rideau Aquatic Rugby Club. His 85 yard punt return on Nov 24, 1923 still is the longest in an Inter-Conference game. Apologies to Dutch Layton, Winnipeg Victorias II. His 5 rushing touchdowns on Oct 25, 1924 was the most by a western player. Apologies to Dave Duchak, Moose Jaw Maroons Jrs. Further research into his punting in the Leader- Post game on Dec 10, 1932 indicates he was hoisting the ball well over 50 yards. His 20 kicks for 880 yards into and with the wind, was a then junior record. Apologies to Al Stoddard of the Toronto Westsiders for his record 107 yard interception return touch- down on Oct 28, 1944. Apologies to Bruce Cummings, University of Toronto at Ajax. His 90 yard punt on Oct 30, 1946 equalled the junior record set by Harry Beckwith, Elmwood Roamers in 1939. Apologies to Wayne Smith, Saskatoon Hilltops. His 102 yard touchdown run on Oct 9, 1961 equalled the junior record. Apologies to Bruce Morris, Burlington Braves. Further research has found that he gained 1,143 yards rushing during the 1969 season. Apologies to Dave Humes, NDG Maple Leafs. His 18.3 All-Purpose average on Sept 4, 1970 equalled the Junior record. Apologies to Bill Langler, Scarboro Rams for his record 108 yard fumble return for a touchdown on July 29, 1972 Apologies to Mark Woodhouse, Niagara Falls Regional Raiders. His 43 receptions in 1972 was a jun- ior record. Apologies to three OJFC players for their 1,000 yard rushing during the 1972 season. Ken Doll, Etobicoke-Lakeshore Bears (1,042 yds and rushing leader), Rick Chalupka, Hamilton Hurricanes (1,011 yds) and John Pikula, Brantford Bisons (1,005 yds) on a record 208 rushing attempts. Apologies to the Niagara Falls Regional Raiders for their 8 safety touches during the 1973 season. At the time it was a junior record. Apologies to Brian Blanchard, Niagara Falls Regional Raiders for his two blocked punts returned for touchdowns during the 1973 season. Apologies to Dave Convery, Niagara Falls Regional Raiders for his record 4 punt return touchdowns during the 1973 season. Two on July 27 and two more on Aug 11. Apologies to Chuck Robson, Niagara Falls Regional Raiders for his two blocked kicks on July 27, 1973 Apologies to Barry Belshaw, Brantford Bisons for his two touchdowns on fumble returns in 1975 Apologies to Tony Almonte, Hamilton Hurricanes for two punt return touchdowns on Sept 23, 1978 Apologies to Todd Middleton, Edmonton Wildcats. His 39.0 defensive points on Oct 2, 1983 was a Prairie Junior Football Conference record. Further research of Ontario teams during the 1917 season has found a more detailed Toronto City Football League as well as another 2 Districts of the Junior ORFU. More game incidents of interest are highlighted in red We are by no means complete. Maybe next year.
