FILMOGRAPHIE Charles Bronson – 93 Films (Intégrale) FILMOGRAPHIE _ Charles Bronson – 93 Films (Intégrale) Charles Bronson est né le 3 novembre 1921 à Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvanie, USA. Il est décédé le 30 août 2003 à Los Angeles, Californie (Pneumonie (maladie d'Alzheimer)). Né Charles Buchinski le 3 novembre 1921 à Ehrenfeld en Pennsylvanie dans une famille d'immigrés lituaniens, Charles Bronson commence en travaillant dans des mines de charbon. Après avoir effectué son service militaire pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il étudie la comédie en Californie avant de débuter au cinéma dans les années cinquante, où son visage très typé et sa musculature de boxeur le vouent durablement aux rôles de "durs" tout au long d'une carrière qui s'étale sur près de quarante ans. D'abord cantonné aux séries B où divers cinéastes exploitent son physique imposant et monolithique, Charles Bronson apparaît également chez Robert Aldrich, dans Bronco Apache ou chez Samuel Fuller dans Le Jugement des flèches. C'est en 1960 qu'il a pour la première fois l'occasion de se distinguer, dans Sept mercenaires de John Sturges et trois ans plus tard, sous la direction du même réalisateur, aux côtés de Steve McQueen dans La Grande évasion. Présent au générique de Propriété interdite de Sydney Pollack, Charles Bronson accède définitivement à la célébrité en 1967 en campant l'un des Douze Salopards pour Robert Aldrich. Devenu une star internationale, l'acteur multiplie alors les productions de premier plan, partenaire d'Alain Delon dans Adieu l'ami de Jean Herman et surtout chez Sergio Leone, dans Il était une fois dans l'Ouest, où son interprétation de l'Homme à l'Harmonica face à Henry Fonda et Claudia Cardinale sur la légendaire musique d'Ennio Morricone reste sans doute son rôle le plus célèbre sur grand écran. Marié à l'actrice Jill Ireland, Charles Bronson tourne par la suite à plusieurs reprises seul ou avec son épouse dans des films où ses compositions se font de plus en plus stéréotypées, à l'image du héros archétypal qu'il incarne en 1974 pour Michael Winner dans Un Justicier dans la ville. L'acteur qui souffrait depuis la fin des années 90 de la maladie d'Alzheimer s'est éteint en 2003 des suites d'une pneumonie. Just got an early review disc in of the Blu-ray of Corruption, which is being released by Grindhouse USA in a region free edition. I have a bit of a vested interest in this one because I contributed liner notes and helped Grindhouse’s Bob Murawski find some of the interview subjects in the UK. It has taken some years to get this one in shops but the wait has been worthwhile because I can’t imagine how it could have been done better. I’ll be reviewing it at length in the next print issue, out in shops on October 24th. I really feel we’re on a roll with Dark Side at present.

Not surprisingly, Simpson is British, thus exemplifying the traditional national characteristics of self-deprecation and celebration of failure. The first point Simpson makes recalls one of the reasons François Truffaut gave to Alfred Hitchcock for what Truffaut notoriously saw as “a certain incompatibility between the terms ‘cinema’ and ‘Britain’ […] there are national characteristics – among them, the English countryside, the subdued way of life, the stolid routine – that are antidramatic in a sense.
