Thanks: MORE FROM HQ -- DON JOHNSON 'WANTS OUT', SEEKS REPLACEMENT After sweating out the past ten years as HQ Guru-, Don Johnson needs a rest and is looking for someone (preferably retired or disabled) to take over headquarters duties. The job involves some bookeeping, letter writing, contact with the publisher, keeping membership files, and sundry kindred tasks. SPEEDX is looking for a qualified person sometime within the year, someone who has 10 to 20 hours per week available to do the job properly. This is not a job for a student or someone with a young family -- so don't apply. Any questions? Contact Don at our HQ address, or John Trautschold at P.O. Box 861, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051 (that's SPEEDX Publishing HQ). LOOKING FOR A PEN -PAL? HERE'S ONE IN JAPAN Perky Peggy, our scintillating CDE, passes along the word that a 32 year old man from Japan, whose hobbies are SWL and stamp collection, is looking for an overseas pen -pal so that he may learn "more about foreign people and their ways". Interested? Write to: Kiyoshi Doi, 4-4-42 Shibukawa-cho, Higashiosaka City, Osaka, 577 Japan. R.F.I. NO LONGER PART OF RADIO FRANCE Radio France Internationale is now an autonomous organization, having left Radio France. In addition to its popular "Paris Calling Africa" program, R.F.I. now transmits for three hours daily to Latin America in French, Portuguese and Spanish. This info was relayed by Robert Fraser, 50 Todd Rd., Cohasset, MA 02025 who also seeks a list of six or more easily recd and identified on the 75 & 60 meter bands. Areas -times: Asia 1000-1300, Africa & Europe 2000-2300, Latin America 0000-0200. All times UTC. R. NEDERLAND OFFERS RECEIVER SHOPPING LIST 'FOR FREE' An excellent 16 -page booklet, "Receiver Shopping List", comparing a number of receivers is available, just for the asking, from: R. Nederland, P. 0. Box 222, 1200 JG Hilversum, Holland. It gives specs, what to look for in a rig, world-wide purchase sources, things to beware of when shopping from "discount" houses, and lots more valuable info. (D. Johnson, CA) CANADA STOPS PUBLISHING 'IN SEARCH' The Canadian Dept. of Communications, suffering "financial constraints", has ceased publishing its "In Search", according to John Demmitt, PA and the RCI listeners who took part in a recent survey and won subscriptions, now seem to be "up the creek without a paddle". Better luck next time: 3 PLANS FINALIZED, INVITATIONS EXTENDED FOR ANARC '83 The Washington Area DX Assn. will host the ANARC '83 Convention at the Westpark Hotel in Rosslyn, VA -- just across the Potomac from Washington. This is a great opportunity for SPEEDXers whose spouses aren't into our hobby to enjoy a family vacation July 15-17 in the shadow of the Nation's Capitol. You can take part in the Convention while your family fills its day with sightseeing. One of the highlights of ANARC '83, from SPEEDX point of view, will be the participation of SPEEDX President, John Traut- schold, in one of the six scheduled Seminars. Friday the 15th will be the time to visit the equipment and club exhibits and displays, attend the Official Convention Opening, and enjoy the Wine and Cheese Reception. Saturday will be a day of listening and learning as ANARC '83 offers six Seminars geared to the varied interests of SPEEDXers, including concurrent sessions on LW/MW, PSB/UTE, FM/TV, and SW, and the Broadcasters Forum where you'll have the chance to question broadcasters about their stations and programs. The day winds up with the Banquet and the Presentation of ANARC Awards. Sunday, the final day, begins with the ANARC Annual General Meeting, goes on with the Presentation of HAP Awards and the exciting HAP Auction, and concludes with the Closing Ceremonies. The Convention Fee of $30.00 per person covers all convention activities, including the Banquet -- in today's economy, that's a real bargain! For complete information and a Registration Form, write to WADXA, at 606 Forest Glen, Silver Spring, MD 20901. Tell 'em SPEEDX sent you! 'SPEEDXGRAM' OFFERS YOU MID -MONTH 'HOT TIPS' If you subscribe to SPEEDXGRAM, you knew by mid -March that Falklands Is- land International Broadcasting Station was running 3.5 kW instead of the listed 500 watts and that it's easily heard in CA on 3958 kHz at UTC 0900.
