CONFERENCE PROGRAM JULY 26-29, 2021 | PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME 2021 ASEE VIRTUAL CONFERENCE PRESIDENT’S WELCOME SMALL SCREEN, SAME BOLD IDEAS It is my honor, as ASEE President, to welcome you to the 128th ASEE Annual Conference. This will be our second and, almost certainly, final virtual conference. While we know there are limits to a virtual platform, by now we’ve learned to navigate online events to make the most of our experience. Last year’s ASEE Annual Conference was a success by almost any measure, and all of us—ASEE staff, leaders, volunteers, and you, our attendees—contributed to a great meeting. We are confident that this year’s event will be even better. Whether attending in person or on a computer, one thing remains the same, and that’s the tremendous amount of great content that ASEE’s Annual Conference unfailingly delivers. From our fantastic plenary speakers, paper presentations, and technical sessions to our inspiring lineup of Distinguished Lectures and panel discussions, you will have many learning opportunities and take-aways. I hope you enjoy this week’s events and please feel free to “find” me and reach out with any questions or comments! Sincerely, SHERYL SORBY ASEE President 2020-2021 2 Schedule subject to change. Some folks have wondered why we dropped “Portland” from our W title last year, but many have also recognized our year-round commitment and expansion for presenting jazz all across the Rose City under our organization name PDX Jazz (and no one will dispute that PDX is the best airport in America—even with the new carpeting). Our tireless pursuit in offering our Citizens of Jazzlandia the finest examples of emerging, established and legacy artists continued unabated this past Fall with eleven shows: Raul Midón, Kamasi Washington, Camila Meza, Bill Frisell, McCoy Tyner, Steve Lehman, and Dave Douglas, among others. We have many great shows planned for the coming season T. S. MONK including Dave Holland, Donny McCaslin, Gerald Clayton, Billy Childs, Anat Cohen, Eliane Elias, Manuel Valera, Marquis Hill and Blacktet, Ambrose Akinmusire, and major surprises to be announced soon. The venues with whom we partner are integral in making sure we can keep bringing this high level of artistry for Portlanders to admire and discover.

1/15/2019 As sturgeon farming grows, demand concerns emerge « Global Aquaculture Advocate MARKETPLACE (/ADVOCATE/CATEGORY/MARKETPLACE) As sturgeon farming grows, demand concerns emerge Monday, 7 November 2016 By Nicki Holmyard Global farmed caviar production set to double by 2020 As sturgeon stocks and caviar production began to decline, global demand for caviar increased, sending prices soaring and paving the way for sturgeon aquaculture. Farms can now be found throughout Europe, in North America and even in South America and Asia, with the most recent https://www.aquaculturealliance.org/advocate/as-sturgeon-farming-grows-demand-concerns-emerge/?headlessPrint=AAAAAPIA9c8r7gs82oWZBA 1/15/2019 As sturgeon farming grows, demand concerns emerge « Global Aquaculture Advocate entrant to the market being Vietnam. All photos courtesy of Acadian Sturgeon and Caviar Inc. In the past 30 years, over-exploitation of wild sturgeon stocks caused the main sturgeon sheries – in the Baltic Sea and in the most important production area, the Caspian Sea – to seriously decline. Sturgeons now have the highest proportion of critically endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. Strict international and domestic regulations are now in place to prevent further decline, and in 2011 international trade from all the major stocks of sturgeon was suspended. However, illegal shing and sales activity continues to take place, according to Dr. Harald Rosenthal, president of the World Sturgeon Conservation Society. As wild sturgeon stocks and caviar production dwindled, global demand for caviar increased, sending prices soaring and paving the way for sturgeon aquaculture to enter the arena. The question now being asked is if the market can keep up with strong farmed caviar production forecasts.
