Growing up listening to artists like Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin, she has emulated their powerful and soulful voices. Her style ranges from Top 40 hits to RnB and Country, ensuring her performance will have something for everyone. MAY Neal Ryan, 4:15pm (PST) 13 Originally from Dublin, Ireland and hailing from an intensely musical family, Neal Ryan’s love for his craft comes from a long lineage of storytellers, musicians and artists. Neal’s own original works bear large resemblance to the “Troubadour” era of the late 60’s and 70’, with inspiration from artists like James Taylor and Cat Stevens. MAY Rob Eller, 4:15pm (PST) 20 Rob Eller is a signer/guitarist/entertainer who chooses to express his music as a solo, and has had a guitar in his hands since his 9th birthday. He fills up the rooms he performs in with the sound of a full band, paying extra attention to musical dynamics, continually finding new ways to express a song. -

Straubhaar The format program trade has grown rapidly in the past decade and has become an important part of the global television market. This study aimed to give an understanding of this phenomenon by examining how global formats enter and become incorporated into the national media market through a case study analysis on the Korean format market. Analyses were done to see how the historical background influenced the imported format flows, how the format flows changed after the media liberalization period, and how the format uses changed from illegal copying to partial formats to whole licensed formats. Overall, the results of this study suggest that the global format program flows are different from the whole ‘canned’ program flows because of the adaptation processes, which is a form of hybridity, the formats go through. -

OfcomOfcom Broadcast Preliminary and On Demand View Bulletin Published 17 September 2020 Britain’s Got Talent Type of case Broadcast Standards Outcome Not Pursued Service ITV Date & time 5 September 2020, 20:00 Category Protection of children/generally accepted standards/dangerous behaviour/due impartiality Summary This programme included a performance by the British dance group Diversity which represented the events of 2020, including the Coronavirus pandemic and global anti-racism protests. We concluded that the programme did not raise issues which warranted investigation under the Broadcasting Code. Ofcom received approximately 24,5001 complaints about the above programme. Complainants outlined a range of concerns about Diversity’s performance, including that the themes of violence and racism were inappropriate for family viewing, that it expressed support for the political organisation ‘Black Lives Matter’ and that it was racist towards White people. Ofcom also received a number of messages of support and praise for the performance. Ofcom has assessed this programme against the relevant rules in the Broadcasting Code (“the Code”). Our assessment is that this programme did not raise any issues which warranted investigation. In our view, Diversity’s performance was an artistic expression of topical social issues and did not contain any content which was racist, unsuitably violent or otherwise inappropriate in the context of this programme. BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang Media memiliki fungsi dan disfungsi tersendiri bagi khalayaknya. Khalayak secara sadar memilih media mana yang sesuai dengan keinginan dan kebutuhannya. Media massa adalah alat-alat dalam komunikasi yang bisa menyebarkan pesan secara serempak, cepat kepada audiens yang luas dan heterogen. Istilah “media massa” memberikan gambaran mengenai alat komunikasi yang bekerja dalam berbagai skala terbatas hingga dapat mencapai dan melibatkan siapa saja dalam masyarakat dalam skala yang sangat luas. Istilah media massa mengacu kepada sejumlah media yang telah ada sejak puluhan tahun yang lalu dan tetap digunakan hingga saat ini seperti surat kabar, majalah, film, radio, televisi, dan internet (Morissan, 2013:479). Kelebihan media massa dibanding dengan jenis komunikasi lain adalah ia bisa mengatasi hambatan ruang dan waktu. Bahkan media massa mampu menyebarkan pesan hampir seketika pada waktu yang tak terbatas (Nurudin, 2007). Media massa televisi merupakan suatu sarana yang sangat efektif dalam mempengaruhi pola pikir manusia karena televisi merupakan sebuah media yang sudah tidak asing lagi. Hampir disetiap rumah ada televisi. Sehingga televisi sebagai media komunikasi memiliki kemampuan untuk mengakses publik hingga ke ruang pribadi. Televisi merupakan hasil produk teknologi tinggi (hi-tech) yang menyampaikan isi pesan dalam bentuk audiovisual gerak. Isi pesan audiovisual gerak memiliki kekuatan yang sangat tinggi untuk mempengaruhi mental, pola 1 pikir, dan tindak individu. Televisi adalah media audio visual yaitu sebuah media yang tidak hanya bisa didengar saja tetapi juga bisa dilihat gambarnya. Pesatnya perkembangan televisi di Indonesia membuat banyaknya stasiun televisi yang menyuguhkan acara-acara menghibur di kala santai. Belakangan ini sering kita jumpai di berbagai stasiun televisi banyak yang menyajikan tayangan talkshow, magazine show dan acara reality show yang disajikan dengan beragam tema dan tampilan. -

Understanding Korean Society Through Popular Music

Bergen (Yonsei University, Seoul) Understanding Korean Society through Popular Music Today one of the most unique aspects of inter-Asian cultural sharing is the hallyu wave. This social phenomenon began in Seoul, South Korea and today accounts for the all pervasive nature of Korean popular entertainment dominating the airwaves of nearly every Asian country. From Japan to Thailand, “K-pop” has conquered the Asian market, and is now turning its attention to the rest of the world. In order to illustrate this current social phenomenon, I have found many sources that all point to the same aspects in K-pop which have allowed one small country to make their entertainment business one of its most lucrative exports. The hallyu wave as a whole has become a blending of uniquely Korean culture with aspects of Western and other Asian cultures which has created a style unique to this particular moment of history. In the words of Sun Jung, author of the article “Korean Masculinities and Transcultural Consumption: Yonsama, Rain, Oldboy, K-Pop Idols,” “Transcultural hybridity is one of the most significant aspects of contemporary South Korean popular culture in the postmodern era and is the main driving force behind its overseas popularity” (Jung 166). This combination has allowed the music and film from Korea to be extremely accessible to a wide audience of various nationalities and languages. In order to clearly illustrate the international success of hallyu, I will focus on one specific aspect of current Korean popular culture: music.
