These are the 4 types he defined and his assessment of Portlandfig. ( 1) 1.Strong and fearless (citizens who cycle); 2.Enthusiastic and confident (citizens who cycle); 3.Interested but concerned (citizens who don’t cycle due to concerns, but they’re interested); 4.No way, no how (citizens not interested in cycling). 1.Strong&Fearless 2. They are interested in switching brands – willing to try something different – in this case bicycles instead of cars. However, they have concerns/fears about “people driving automobiles”. Geller’s assumption was only safe, segregated cycle infrastructure (on a macro level) could remove the fear associated with cycling and significantly move the needle to the right – into the IBC category. This study isn’t an argument against cycle infrastructure – cycle infrastructure is key in moving the needle rapidly to the right. This study tries to understand who the IBCs are in greater detail.
