It explores what happens when one person in a marriage suddenly does a 180 on the gun issue and it asks what we can compartmentalize and what we can’t. Uprising Theatre Company believes in warning audiences about potentially triggering material. “Friends with Guns” contains the following content warnings: -Simulated gun fire sounds-Discussions and depictions of Intruder and Domestic Violence. Featuring Rev. James Morris Lawson, American activist and university professor, leading theoretician and tactician of nonviolence within the Civil Rights Movement. During the 1960s, Rev. Lawson served as a mentor to the Nashville Student Movement and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Also featuring Fr. John Dear, teacher of nonviolence, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and author of They Will Inherit the Earth and Proclamation of Peace. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2019 10:30AM Coming to the Table – Racial Healing Talking Circle-Minnesota Peacebuilding Leadership Institute, Sumner Library, 611 Van White Memorial Blvd., Mpls, 55411 Coming to the Table (CTTT) free, monthly racial healing talking circles address interpersonal, community, and structural racial violence and trauma. At CTTT, descendants of those who were enslaved, descendants of slave owners, indigenous community members, and all those interested in engaging in safe constructive dialogue, are invited to come together to envision Minneapolis as a just and truthful community – one that acknowledges and seeks to heal the racial wounds from the historical trauma of slavery, genocide of Native Americans, and the racism these collective traumas continue to spawn. CTTT provides ongoing relationship engagement, leadership, resources, and a supportive environment to dismantle racism. Coming Out of Bondage (C.O.O.B.) is a nonprofit organization actively working to liberate women and children from the slavery of sex trafficking. We hand out stickers, and visit with our neighbors about the costs of war. For the second year, we are collaborating with a variety of local organizations to offer fun activities focused on “giving back .” Festival activities will include: Hands-on service projects, like those offered in our DGT Family Service Fairs, including: Assembling hygiene kits for Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities to help those experiencing homelessness; Decorating pillowcases for My Very Own Bed to help children and families transitioning into stable housing; Braiding dog toys for ACT V Rescue and Rehabilitation; Packing baby care kits for Second Stork to help new parents in need; Multicultural performances from COMPAS and Kalpulli Ketzal Coatlicue, Duniya Drum and Dance, and Tay Phuong Lions, Mindfulness crafts and yoga sessions from Learning Tree Yoga, Giant cooperative kindness-themed art installation. Fun kid-friendly activities like T-shirt printing, music- and art-making, kindness crafts, and a service dog meet & greet.
