Nonprofit Security Grant Program Threat Incident Report
Nonprofit Security Grant Program Threat Incident Report: January 2019 to Present November 15, 2020 (Updated 02/22/2021) Prepared By: Rob Goldberg, Senior Director, Legislative Affairs [email protected] The following is a compilation of recent threat incidents, at home or abroad, targeting Jews and Jewish institutions (and other faith-based organization) that have been reported in the public record. When completing the Threat section of the IJ (Part III. Risk): ▪ First Choice: Describe specific terror (or violent homegrown extremist) incidents, threats, hate crimes, and/or related vandalism, trespass, intimidation, or destruction of property that have targeted its property, membership, or personnel. This may also include a specific event or circumstance that impacted an affiliate or member of the organization’s system or network. ▪ Second Choice: Report on known incidents/threats that have occurred in the community and/or State where the organization is located. ▪ Third Choice: Reference the public record regarding incidents/threats against similar or like institutions at home or abroad. Since there is limited working space in the IJ, the sub-applicant should be selective in choosing appropriate examples to incorporate into the response: events that are most recent, geographically proximate, and closely related to their type or circumstance of their organization or are of such magnitude or breadth that they create a significant existential threat to the Jewish community at large. I. Overview of Recent Federal Risk Assessments of National Significance Summary The following assessments underscore the persistent threat of lethal violence and hate crimes against the Jewish community and other faith- and community-based institutions in the United States. -
Annual Meeting of the European Cantors Association Friday 11 July 2014
EUROPEAN CANTORS ASSOCIATION The future of synagogue music Patrons: Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis Cantors Naftali Herstik, Joseph Malovany Convenor: Alex Klein. CEE Branch Head: David Schwezoff Annual Meeting of the European Cantors Association Friday 11 July 2014. 13.20 Bethlen Square Synagogue Budapest Agenda 1. Present 2. Apologies 3. Annual Report including Newsletter and financial reports 4. Appointment of Newsletter editor and other roles 5. The future – Discussion as to what each chazzan will do in his own area and environment and how ECA can help? 6. AOB The European Cantors Association (ECA) was launched by Cantor Joseph Malovany in July 2012 in Manchester at the 7th annual European Cantors Convention. • ECA was created as a framework within which cantors themselves can work individually and together to raise their profile and standing in the community. • This has inspired and enabled cantors to become active in working with the younger generation, engaging in meaningful dialogue with rabbis and lay synagogue leadership and arranging study days and conventions to improve their skills and knowledge. • The ECA slogans are ‘the future of synagogue music’ and ‘no more blame, let’s get on with the game’. Cantors today realise that unless they take the viability of their future into their own hands, the timeless and traditional cantorial music loved by centuries of Jews may be lost forever. Membership £10 (or $15 or E15) per annum. The following talk was given by George Critchlow on April 25, 2006 at Temple Beth Shalom in Spokane, Washington in honor of Yom Hashoah, the annual remembrance of the Holocaust. Critchlow, an associate pro- fessor at Gonzaga University School of Law and a founder and former director of the Gonzaga Institute for Action Against Hate, was selected by the congregation to represent the “righteous gentile.” Professor Critchlow would like to acknowledge the helpful ideas and background information presented at the Amnesty International USA Lawyers’ Conference at the University of Washington School of Law on February 17-18, 2006. In particular, he was inspired by John Shattuck’s presentation titled “The Legacy of Nuremberg: Confronting Genocide and Terrorism Through the Rule of Law.” I have enormous respect for Temple Beth Shalom, what it stands for, its congregation, and those individuals whom I have come to know and count as friends. I am deeply honored and privileged to be invited to speak to you on this Day of Remembrance–especially in light of the occasion to recognize the 60 years that have now passed since the establishment of a new rule of law and accountability regarding war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg Military Tribunal in 1946. I have a poster hanging in my office that frequently catches my eye and reminds me to connect my heart with my head. It is a picture of a small child of uncertain ethnicity, running happily, arms out, into the smiling face and open arms of his mother. -
When Victims Rule
1 24 JEWISH INFLUENCE IN THE MASS MEDIA, Part II In 1985 Laurence Tisch, Chairman of the Board of New York University, former President of the Greater New York United Jewish Appeal, an active supporter of Israel, and a man of many other roles, started buying stock in the CBStelevision network through his company, the Loews Corporation. The Tisch family, worth an estimated 4 billion dollars, has major interests in hotels, an insurance company, Bulova, movie theatres, and Loliards, the nation's fourth largest tobacco company (Kent, Newport, True cigarettes). Brother Andrew Tisch has served as a Vice-President for the UJA-Federation, and as a member of the United Jewish Appeal national youth leadership cabinet, the American Jewish Committee, and the American Israel Political Action Committee, among other Jewish organizations. By September of 1986 Tisch's company owned 25% of the stock of CBS and he became the company's president. And Tisch -- now the most powerful man at CBS -- had strong feelings about television, Jews, and Israel. The CBS news department began to live in fear of being compromised by their boss -- overtly, or, more likely, by intimidation towards self-censorship -- concerning these issues. "There have been rumors in New York for years," says J. J. Goldberg, "that Tisch took over CBS in 1986 at least partly out of a desire to do something about media bias against Israel." [GOLDBERG, p. 297] The powerful President of a major American television network dare not publicize his own active bias in favor of another country, of course. That would look bad, going against the grain of the democratic traditions, free speech, and a presumed "fair" mass media. -

TruNews and Rick Wiles: "End Times" Anti- Semitism and Anti-Zionism Rick Wiles Updated January 13, 2020 UPDATE: On January 13, 2020, TruNews announced that Paypal, as well as the donor management companies Bloomerang and Spreedly, had stopped processing their donations. TruNews claims it is still able to process online credit card contributions via Stripe. In an anti-Semitic, conspiracy theory-laced letter to supporters, TruNews founder Rick Wiles ascribed the change to his coverage of "Israeli Mossad’s blackmail operation through the fake billionaire Jeffrey Epstein," adding that we live in "Bolshevik, Zionist America." 1 / 7 Wiles has devoted extensive TruNews coverage to the conspiracy theory that Jeffrey Epstein was an Israeli agent who offered sex with underage girls to American politicians and businessmen in order to blackmail them into supporting Israel. "The success of Jeffrey Epstein’s blackmail operation explains how Israel secretly seized control of America over the past thirty years," Wiles said on the January 9, 2020 episode of TruNews. He continued, "The kosher coverup continues, where America’s elite, [are] working overtime to cover up the Israeli child sex blackmail operation that was going on in this country for at least thirty years." TruNews is a funfunfunfundamdamdamdamentalistentalistentalistentalist Christian ChristianChristianChristian streaming news and opinion platform that has increasingly featured anti-Semitic and anti-Zionist content, and also has a long record of disseminating radical Islamophobic and anti-LGBTQ messages. Founded in 1999 by Rick Wiles and affiliated with Flowing Streams Church in Vero Beach, FL, where Wiles is senior pastor, TruNews was previously known as America’s Hope, American Freedom News, and briefly as Christian News Channel. -
