Chagpori Medical College Pdf-12 CHAGPORI TIBETAN MEDICAL INSTITUTE Chagpori Medical College was initially established at Lhasa in Tibet, 1696 by Desi Sangye Gyatso, one of the foremost scholars of Tibetan Medicine & Astrology, in line with a divine wish of His Holiness The Great Fifth Dalai Lama. Dr.Trogawa Rinpoche (late), a direct descendant of Chagpori medical lineage has reestablished the Chagpori Tibetan Medical Institute in March of 1992 at Darjeeling, West Bengal to promote its ancient medical tradition. It is a non-profit charitable organization registered under the West Bengal Societies Act XXVI of the 1961. Chagpori has a Governing Board, who looks after the over-all policy and decision- making. The following department works under the office of administration. 1. Medical College 2. Clinic & dispensary 3. Pharmacy The Academic session The College has been training the medical students since 1992. The standard course is 5 years plus two years of internship in line with the Kachupa degree syllabus offered by Tibetan Medical and Astro. Institute (Men-Tsee-Khang) in Dharamsala. The medium of instruction is Tibetan. More than 30 medical students have graduated from the college till date. Staff resource: The Medical College. Institute was re-established by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India. The primary objective of Tibetan Medical &Astro. Institute is to preserve, promote and revive the traditional system of Tibetan medicine (Sowa- Rigpa) and astro-science practiced for thousands of years in Tibet. Since the inception of Tibetan Medical & Astro Institute on March 23rd 1961, this body has grown into a leading academic institution for revival and preservation of Tibetan medicine and Tibetan Astrology and Astronomy. The year 2016 will be a watershed year in the history of Men-Tsee-Khang. We celebrate 100 years of establishing Men- Tsee-Khang by the Great 13th Dalai Lama in Lhasa, Tibet, 55 years of re-establishing Men-Tsee-Khang by the Great 14th Dalai Lams in Dharamsala, India, and 320 years of establishing the Chagpori Medical College in Lhasa, Tibet by the Great 5th Dalai Lama. Among her various religious roles were those of pilgrim, professional singer of manis (mani pa), healer, a messenger from the land of the dead (‘das log), yogini, nun, lineage-holder, visionary, performer of miracles (siddha), emanation, treasure-finder, religious teacher and head of a nunnery. In short, she had all the signs and charisma of a holy person. She was popularly known as Jetsun or Ani Lochen (A ne Lo chen), and among her several other names Rigdzin Chönyi Sangmo (Rig ’dzin chos nyid bzang mo) was frequently used. The main textual source regarding Jetsun Lochen Rinpoche’s life is her autobiography (271 folios). Lochen was repeatedly requested by her disciples to tell her life-story, but only in 1937, when she was requested by Drubchen Dawa Dorje Rinpoche (Grub chen Zla ba rdo rje rin po che), whom she recognized as the reincarnation of her root- lama Pema Gyatso (Padma rgya mtsho, 1829-1889/90), did she consent.
