PRESS RELEASE True Bourgogne Terroir with the Buried Treasures of Régionales Wines with DGC These wines offer an entry point into Bourgogne with incredible taste, and price-quality ratio for the Summer Season The reputation of Bourgogne is second to none, with its internationally renowned wines and unique terroirs that make wine lovers dream around the world. Contrary to popular belief, it is still possible to find rare and unknown gems at affordable prices, especially among Régionale appellations with an additional geographic denomination (aka DGC, dénomination géographique complémentaire.) Bourgogne & Mâcon with DGC: Treasures to Discover The Régionale appellations with DGC account for 16% of the total production of Bourgogne wines. They identify a narrower territory than that of the AOC in which they are located. These geographical denominations highlight areas of the 2 appellations, Bourgogne and Mâcon, with specific characteristics. They thus introduce a more restricted concept of Terroir, from the geographical area such as Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerres, Bourgogne Côte d'Or, to the only Climat – for ex. Bourgogne Montrecul, via the village designations – for ex. Mâcon-Pierreclos or Bourgogne Chitry. They are also the result of more restrictive production conditions, with a higher level of requirement than that of Régionale appellations without a denomination (Bourgogne Chardonnay, Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Mâcon red or white, etc.); besides the more precise plot delineation, they rely on lower yields and a higher level of sugar in the grapes. This is the perfect time to discover these wines since the quality of these appellations has never been better than in recent years! They have particularly benefitted from the rise in quality of all Bourgogne wines for many years thanks to the improvement of cultural and oenological practices, and with an ongoing commitment to eco-responsible practices and acknowledgement of climate change in this sector. A true gateway to the notion of Terroir in Bourgogne, these appellations, with their attractive quality-price ratio and enjoyability, allow lovers of Bourgogne or those who wish to discover it to go on a treasure hunt amongst the 14 Bourgogne and 27 Mâcon appellations with a DGC. The Temptation of White Wines with Sunshine With the arrival of good weather, opportunities are sure to arise to discover these hidden gems, while being kind to your wallet and your senses. In addition, what better time to start the summer season than to find some of the white wines of the Régionale appellations with a geographical denomination? Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise, Bourgogne Chitry, Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune, Mâcon-Chaintré, Mâcon-La-Roche-Vineuse or Mâcon-Lugny are some examples of appellations producing white wines of artisans, wines full of emotion and authenticity. To re-affirm its identity as one of the most iconic vineyards of France, the region and its producers are reverting to the original French iteration of its name - Bourgogne. By maintaining this one identity, Bourgogne returns to its historical roots as the consummate brand treasured by consumers the world over. About the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) The Bourgogne Wine Board is a professional organization that brings together all winegrowers and wine merchants from Bourgogne. Its role is to represent and protect the interests of Bourgogne wines and professional winemakers & merchants, to define Bourgogne wines policy in technical, economic and marketing terms, and to conduct related promotional activities. Bourgogne today approaches a 29,400-hectare puzzle, representing only 0.6% of the world wine production, but which still adds up to nearly 187 million bottles. No other French region so neatly sums up one word – “terroir” – and great quality wines. For what makes Bourgogne wines stand out is the intimate relationship between the soil, the influence of the microclimate, the grape variety, and the work of the man.
