Press Release Bourgogne Régionale Appellations with an Additional
Press Release All you need to know about: Régionale Appellations with an additional geographical denomination March 2019 What is an additional geographical denomination? Certain appellations include in their specifications a “dénomination géographique complémentaire”, or additional geographical denomination. This identifies a more restricted territory than that set out in the “Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée” in which they are located. These geographical denominations highlight areas in the Bourgogne or Mâcon appellations with specific characteristics. They also set out stricter production specifications (see below). These areas benefit from the overall rise in quality of Bourgogne wines over many years thanks to: - Improvements in growing and enological practices - The sector’s engagement in an eco-responsible dynamic - Climate change They are a market-driven response to consumer expectations, associating pleasure with affordable prices. The geographical denomination within a specification is not limited to Régionale appellations. Premier Cru appellations are also additional geographical denominations within the specifications of each Village AOC. Druing the creation of the AOCs, the Climats of certain Village wines were highlighted for their exceptional characteristics and obtained Premier Cru status (the exact name for this category is henceforth AOC Village Premier Cru). Likewise, some Grand Cru appellations underwent the same process. Chablis Grand Cru is the best-known: There is only one set of specifications for Chablis Grand -

Mâcon, Mâcon Villages, Mâcon Plus the Name of the Village
Mâcon, Mâcon Villages, Mâcon plus the name of the village APPELLATION D’ORIGINE CONTRÔLÉE Appellation Régionale of the Mâconnais wine-growing region (Saône-et- Loire). The word VILLAGES or the name of the commune of origin may only be added to the word MÂCON for wines harvested within the defined area of the appellation MÂCON VILLAGES consisting of 26 named communes and grouped together. Producing communes: Mâcon: communes of the Mâcon administrative district plus 11 nearby communes. Mâcon Villages: Azé, Bray, Burgy, Bussières, Chaintré, Chardonnay, Charnay-lès-Mâcon, Cruzille, Davayé, Fuissé, Igé, Loché, Lugny, Mancey, Milly-Lamartine, Montbellet, Péronne, Pierreclos, Prissé, La Roche-Vineuse, Saint-Gengoux-le-National, Solutré-Pouilly, Uchizy, Vergisson, Verzé, Vinzelles. TASTING NOTES The Mâconnais white wines are the colour of white or yellow gold or straw- coloured with gently glowing silvery or greenish highlights. To the nose, their aromas suggest broom, white roses, acacia, honeysuckle, fern, verbena, lemon-grass, and citrus fruits (grapefruit, mandarin oranges). In the mouth, the finish adds nuances of pine, quince and fennel. The impression on the palate varies according to each village and each terroir of origin. These wines are fresh and luscious as well as dry and well-fruited. They have good concentration backed by sufficient acidity to ensure their keeping qualities. They are full and smooth in character. SERVING SUGGESTIONS White: their cheeky charm and lively approach make them perfect as a pre-dinner drink served with salty finger foods such as chips, crackers, peanuts and olives. Their perfect all-round balance of vivacity, fullness, and smoothness plus aromatic complexity makes them easy to match with food. -

True Bourgogne Terroir with the Buried Treasures of Régionales Wines With
PRESS RELEASE True Bourgogne Terroir with the Buried Treasures of Régionales Wines with DGC These wines offer an entry point into Bourgogne with incredible taste, and price-quality ratio for the Summer Season The reputation of Bourgogne is second to none, with its internationally renowned wines and unique terroirs that make wine lovers dream around the world. Contrary to popular belief, it is still possible to find rare and unknown gems at affordable prices, especially among Régionale appellations with an additional geographic denomination (aka DGC, dénomination géographique complémentaire.) Bourgogne & Mâcon with DGC: Treasures to Discover The Régionale appellations with DGC account for 16% of the total production of Bourgogne wines. They identify a narrower territory than that of the AOC in which they are located. These geographical denominations highlight areas of the 2 appellations, Bourgogne and Mâcon, with specific characteristics. They thus introduce a more restricted concept of Terroir, from the geographical area such as Bourgogne Côtes d'Auxerres, Bourgogne Côte d'Or, to the only Climat – for ex. Bourgogne Montrecul, via the village designations – for ex. Mâcon-Pierreclos or Bourgogne Chitry. They are also the result of more restrictive production conditions, with a higher level of requirement than that of Régionale appellations without a denomination (Bourgogne Chardonnay, Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Mâcon red or white, etc.); besides the more precise plot delineation, they rely on lower yields and a higher level of sugar in the grapes. This is the perfect time to discover these wines since the quality of these appellations has never been better than in recent years! They have particularly benefitted from the rise in quality of all Bourgogne wines for many years thanks to the improvement of cultural and oenological practices, and with an ongoing commitment to eco-responsible practices and acknowledgement of climate change in this sector. -
