Debra Byrne joins the cast of . Musical theatre superstar Debra Byrne to play flamboyant society hostess Muzzy Van Hossmere for The Production Company’s Thoroughly Modern Millie.

For more than 30 years Debra Byrne has thrilled audiences, from the Queen of Pop at age 16 to Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard. Her credits include Les Miserables, Cats, Hot Shoe Shuffle, Minefields and Miniskirts, cabaret shows, television drama, film and three CD’s. She said today “ I can’t wait to be part of such a fun, upbeat musical. I’m really looking forward to being part of a company and playing such an outrageous character as Muzzy.”

In an Australian premiere, The Production Company presents the Tony Award winning Broadway smash hit for 6 performances from October 4 at the State Theatre. Directed by Roger Hodgman, with Orchestra Victoria conducted by Kellie Dickerson, Thoroughly Modern Millie is the third and final show in Season 2006.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is the story of a young country girl who comes to the Big Apple in the roaring twenties, looking for life and love. Along the way she befriends an aspiring actress, Miss Dorothy Brown and falls for a dynamic paperclip salesman Jimmy Smith, in spite of her vow to marry her dashing boss, Trevor Graydon. Sparkling with wit, dripping with 20’s style, Millie won 6 including Best Musical. The Academy Award winning 1967 movie starred as Millie, as Miss Dorothy, James Fox as Jimmy and Carol Channing as Muzzy.

Debra Byrne’s fellow cast members will include Helpmann Award winning actress Chloe Dallimore (The Producers) as Millie Dillmount, Lucy Durack (Oklahoma!) as Miss Dorothy Brown, David Harris (Full Monty) as Jimmy Smith, Adam Murphy (Pajama Game) as Trevor Graydon, Nicki Wendt (Annie Get Your Gun) as Mrs Meers, and Cindy Pritchard as Miss Flannery.
