It has an attractive 'pearmain' shape. This is a fairly dry apple - which is perhaps not regarded as a desirable attribute today. In spite of this it is actually a very enjoyable apple, with a rich aromatic flavour which in apple terms is usually described as Although it had 'shelf appeal' for the Victorian housewife, its autumnal colouring is probably too subdued to compete with the bright young things of the modern supermarket shelves. A choice seedling, Aerlie Red Flesh has a beautiful yellow skin with pale whitish dots, but it is inside that it excels. Deep rose red flesh, juicy, crisp, hard, sugary and richly flavored, ripening late (October) and keeping throughout the winter. The late Conrad Gemmer, an astute observer of apples with 500 varieties in his collection, rated Hidden Rose an outstanding variety of top quality. -

Biologie vegetală, 2020, 66: 13-29 ISSN: 1223-6578, E-ISSN: 2247-2711 ASPECTS REGARDING FLORA AND THE ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF SOME PLANT SPECIES FROM THE LOCAL MEADOWS OF BĂICENI (BOTOȘANI COUNTY) Florentina ȘCHIOPU1, Anișoara STRATU2*, Irina IRIMIA2 Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to inventory the plant species in the meadows on the territory of Băiceni and highlight their economic importance. The floristic studies were carried out in the vegetation season from 2018 to 2019. Based on the literature, plant species were identified and then processed in terms of bioforms, floristic elements and ecological indices. Also, the economic categories in which the identified species fall were analysed. 66 species belonging to 21 botanical families have been identified. The families Fabaceae, Poaceae and Asteraceae were distinguished by the higher number of species. Most of the species identified in the study area are hemicryptophytes, heliophiles, eurytherms, which grow on dry to moderately moist soils, euritrophs. Over 50% of the identified species belong to several categories of useful plants (fodder, medicinal, melliferous). Introduction In Romania, in 2014, hayfields and pastures occupied 31.9% of the country's agricultural area (Raport anual privind starea mediului în România, anul 2017). In Botoșani County, at the level of 2019, pastures, hayfields and natural meadows represented 23% of the agricultural area of the county, the pastures having a higher share (19%) (Raport privind starea mediului în județul Botoșani în anul 2019). -

ABSTRACT Lathyrus species are well placed to meet the increasing global demand for food and animal feed, at the time of climate change. Conservation and sustainable use of the genetic resources of Lathyrus is of significant importance to allow the regain of interest in Lathyrus species in world. A comprehensive global database of Lathyrus species originating from the Mediterranean Basin, Caucasus, Central and West Asia Regions is developed using accessions in major genebanks and information from eight herbaria in Europe. This Global Lathyrus database was used to conduct gap analysis to guide future collecting missions and in situ conservation efforts for 37 priority species. The results showed the highest concentration of Lathyrus priority species in the countries of the Fertile Crescent, France, Italy and Greece. -

Received: 22 February 2012; in revised form: 2 March 2012 / Accepted: 6 March 2012 / Published: 15 March 2012 Abstract: Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), a perennial and outcrossing species, is a widely planted forage legume for hay, pasture and silage throughout the world. Currently, alfalfa breeding relies on recurrent phenotypic selection, but alternatives incorporating molecular marker assisted breeding could enhance genetic gain per unit time and per unit cost, and accelerate alfalfa improvement. Many major quantitative trait loci (QTL) related to agronomic traits have been identified by family-based QTL mapping, but in relatively large genomic regions. Candidate genes elucidated from model species have helped to identify some potential causal loci in alfalfa mapping and breeding population for specific traits. Recently, high throughput sequencing technologies, coupled with advanced bioinformatics tools, have been used to identify large numbers of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in alfalfa, which are being developed into markers. These markers will facilitate fine mapping of quantitative traits and genome wide association mapping of agronomic traits and further advanced breeding strategies for alfalfa, such as marker-assisted selection and genomic selection. Based on ideas from the literature, we suggest several ways to improve selection in alfalfa including (1) diversity selection and paternity testing, (2) introgression of QTL and (3) genomic selection. -

To this end the history of fruit growing in Maine has been carefully studied, largely through the Agricultural Reports from 1850 to 1909 and the columns of the Maine Farmer fran 1838 to 1875. The inquiry has been confined as rigidly as possible to this state, out side sources being referred to only for sake of compari son. Rather incidentally, soil influences, modifications due to climate, etc., have been considered. Naturally* since the inquiry was limited to printed record, nothing new has been discovered in this study. Perhaps a somewhat new point of view has been achieved. And, since early Maine pomological literature has been rather neglected by our leading writers, some few forgot ten facts have been exhumed. -

IN THE CONDITIONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA Alexandru TELEUŢĂ1, Victor ŢÎŢEI1 e-mail: [email protected] Abstract We investigated the biological peculiarities, productivity, biochemical composition and nutritional value of the natural fodder of species of the genus Medicago L., M. falcata L., M. varia Mart., M. tianschanica Vass., M. agropyretorum Vass., M. cancellata M.B. and M. glutinosa M.B., Medicago sativa L. was used as control. It was found out that, at the first mowing, the species Medicago tianschanica, Medicago varia and Medicago agropyretorum have a productivity of 2.00-2.14 kg/m2 exceeding by 22-27% the control, with a nutritional value of the natural fodder - 0.20-0.23 nutritive unit/kg and a content of digestible protein – 175.6- 211.6 g/ nutritive unit. Seçilen elma genotipleri arasındaki genetik çeĢitliliği DNA seviyesinde saptamak için 30 RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA ) primeri kullanılmıĢtır. Amplifikasyonlar sonucu toplam 217 adet bant elde edilmiĢ ve bu bantlardan 102 adeti (% 45)’i polimorfik özellik göstermiĢtir.
