The following Memoirs are translated from the Persian version of the Arabic work composed by Ahlil- Nasr-Muhammad' -hn- Muhammad - Al- Jahhar-Al- Uthi. He was descended from the family of Utba, which had occupied important dignities and offices under the Princes of the house of Sdmdn (Kings of Khurasdn, and nominally feudatories of the Kh^lifs of Bagdad). Of this family two are mentioned in the present Memoir, one, Abill-Hasanr Utbi, was Grand Vizier of the Samanide Amir Mansiir-'bn-Niih, and the other, Abu-Jaafar-al- Utbi, was the nobleman to whom the Chamberlain Abiil-Abhds-Tdsh was originally a slave; our author himself, as he was evidently attached to the person of Sabaktagin and his son, doubtless filled some eminent post at Court, he possessed, therefore, the best facilities and opportunities for the compilation of these historical Memoirs, which XIV TRANSLATORS INTRODUCTION. comprise the whole of the reign of Sabaktagin, and are carried on to the 14th year, at least* of the reign of the Sultan Mahmdd. It is probable, therefore, that Utbi did not long survive the date at which his Memoirs terminate. It is to be regretted that this history, being thus cotemporary and personal, does not extend to the whole of that remarkable reign ; it, however, comprises that portion of it which was most stirring and eventful. It must be observed, however, that if the dates given by Dow, in his History of India, and pro- bably taken from Ferishta, be correct, Utbl must have survived to a very late period of Mahmiid's reign, as some of the transactions recorded by him appear to coincide with those mentioned by the above author.

It is often known in English as the Arabian Nights, from the first English language edition (1706), which rendered the title as The Arabian Nights' Entertainment.[1] The work as we have it was collected over many centuries by various authors, translators and scholars across the Middle East and North Africa. The tales themselves trace their roots back to ancient and medieval Arabic, Persian, Indian, Egyptian and Mesopotamian folklore and literature.

Applications—Methodology Matching Imagery Writing—The Decline of the Empire: Three Essays and a Letter Conclusion Bibliography Image Catalogue Catalogue of Work Presented for Examination 2 Abstract This thesis implements the principles of Gilles Deleuze’s theory modeled in The Fold [1993]1, a framework for presenting multiple perspectives simultaneously. The Deleuzian fold is established as a lens through which to view artists’ approaches to their process of making, with complex linkages referencing aspects of their surroundings, their generation, and previous generations. The investigation focuses on the fold concept’s analysis of the production of subjectivity—the process of shifting perspective recursively. The methodology builds on theories and critical literature to: define the fold; give visual context by presenting its role in Cubism; establish the fold’s integral role to the way our brain works—the process that concurrently collects, edits, and stores information as comparisons—that is the fabric of the contemporary arena; present examples of its applications in contemporary artists’ processes and the significance of folding and unfolding within my work.

I am daily confronted with three distinct piles of books on the coffee table that were diligently requested, checked out, carted home and have not been read. It’s getting to the point where I no longer regard them – even one of them – with hope. There are simply too many of them, and I cannot possibly get through them. Today, as a sign of true intellectual decrepitude, I dusted them all. Last summer, when I began my job as a research assistant, I was tasked with writing a draft of an article for a senior political science professor. The article, I was told, was going to be a history of “Islamism” – that messy term now in employ for political Islam1 – in Sudan. It would include major historical eras, figures of import, the current Islam-influenced government, and would be destined for a reference work entitled “Global Survey of Islamism.”2 And so in late May, on my first afternoon of work, I walked across Haverford’s humid, lush campus, and sat down at a computer in Magill Library. A draft would be due in some six weeks and I would be left largely to my own devices.

    Controlled Mosaic of Enceladus Shahrazad Se 400K 43.5/225 CMN, 2018 GENERAL NOTES 66° 270° West This map sheet is the 4th of a 15-quadrangle series covering the entire surface of Enceladus at a 66° nominal scale of 1: 400 000. This map series is the third version of the Enceladus atlas and 1 180° West supersedes the release from 2010 . The source of map data was the Cassini imaging experiment (Porco et al., 2004)2. Cassini-Huygens is a joint NASA/ESA/ASI mission to explore the Saturnian 260° system. The Cassini spacecraft is the first spacecraft studying the Saturnian system of rings and 190° moons from orbit; it entered Saturnian orbit on July 1st, 2004. The Cassini orbiter has 12 instruments. One of them is the Cassini Imaging Science Subsystem 250° (ISS), consisting of two framing cameras. The narrow angle camera is a reflecting telescope with 200° a focal length of 2000 mm and a field of view of 0.35 degrees. The wide angle camera is a refractor with a focal length of 200 mm and a field of view of 3.5 degrees. Each camera is equipped with a 240° 210° large number of spectral filters which, taken together, span the electromagnetic spectrum from 0.2 60° 230° 220° to 1.1 micrometers. At the heart of each camera is a charged coupled device (CCD) detector 60° consisting of a 1024 square array of pixels, each 12 microns on a side.
