DAVID A. KELLY grew up an hour away from Cooperstown, New York, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Although he looked forward to the Hall’s yearly induction ceremony, his Little League baseball career (right fielder, miserable batting average) made it clear he was never going to be the one inducted. Instead, he decided to focus more on homework than home runs and grew up to become a writer.
